notes
This is a collection of the signature tunes from Hal Hartley’s movies from 1990 till 2002. It includes work from Trust, Simple Men, Amateur, and other films, as well as pieces from his theater productions. It is a very listenable sequence of music that clearly illustrates the course of his growth and the range of his interests over a decade.

Waiting for 15 years to solve a mystery.
author: James A. WrightThe first Hal Hartley movie I ever saw was back in 1993-94ish. Either HBO or Cinamax or the like. Simple men. I really enjoyed it. Some weeks later I find myself humming an odd little melody from some forgotten corner in my head. It stays with me, for many, many years. I had the chance to rent Hal's movie again and then "Bam", there's the little tune again. That same little melody that over the years has grown and mutated in my mind. The simple but heart felt little song that has crept into my heart and mind while I'm alone at the bus stop. Or when I'm remembering someone close who has past away. "Bam" I'm very happy to offer not a review but my humble recommendation. Every song on this disc is a heartfelt work of art. That one day as your getting your heart broken by "the one" or running behind your daughter as she's learning to ride a bicycle without training wheels you will be hearing in your mind and in your heart. It took me 15 years to find that song, where it's from and who created it. Well worth the wait! OH yea. That song is number 24 on this disc. the closing song from Simple Men. And it is beautiful.
