notes
Philadelphia-based jazz fusion quartet, THE HALF OF IT, has just released its self-titled second album on Ramsey Records, following up on it's critically acclaimed debut record, "Drop" (Reel to Real Records, 2005). THE HALF OF IT is a leader in new jazz fusion, a sound that infuses modern popular music (funk, hip hop, neo-soul, heavy metal, art rock), along with classical and world music, with the harmonies and improvisation of jazz music.
Since its inception in 2004, THE HALF OF IT has made two records, held residencies at some of Philly's top venues, and made regular appearances at the region's jazz festivals, including Musikfest (PA) and Fraze Pavillion (OH).
The band members have performed with such artists as Geri Allen, Jill Scott, Oliver Lake, Jef Lee Johnson, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Chuck Berry, Andy Bey, Tim Warfield, and Pablo Batista.
The Half of It is:
Tony Peebles - saxophone / effects
Dan Paul - keyboards
Ken Pendergast - bass
Josh Orlando - drums / percussion

The Half Of It
author: Doug FergusonThis is a pretty slick album of classy modern jazz. I first took interest from their catchy cover art, but I was sold once I heard their solid jazz hooks. Never afraid to show off their skill, but unwilling to let that overshadow their song writing, their self titled album is tight, consistent, and a lot of fun.
Music that makes you sit up and take notice!
author: Lovelyn Bettison, stopandhearthemusic.comThe Half of It’s newly released self-titled CD has recently found its way into my CD collection. This Philadelphia based quartet’s brand of jazz fusion makes you sit up and take notice. I’m a writer and I usually listen to music while writing. Some music is good for that. This CD isn’t and that’s a good thing. When I’m listening to The Half of It, I want to pay attention to what’s going on in the music. It doesn’t fade into the background. There is so much going on musically and I want to hear every bit of it. This CD is full of original tunes. The rhythm section is tight and has a really good feel. My favorite track is D’faij. It’s really funky and has inspired some of my best chair dancing (dancing whilst remaining seated) to date.
