notes
Do you remember Radio London, Radio Caroline, and Swinging Radio England? Or have you heard the tales and legends of these upstart mavericks that introduced rock and roll radio to the United Kingdom and eventually brought down the very government that silenced them? These tenacious broadcast pioneers broke the BBC monopoly on music and culture, introducing The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who and countless other bands to British youth. Mostly originating from ships anchored in the North Sea the venture was as dangerous as it was exciting. The glory days only lasted a few short years. But the spirit lives on to this day through satellite radio, countless fan clubs and the power of the Internet.
GunStreetRadio shares the enthusiasm and vision of this unique era. The band has recorded and packaged a four song EP that begins with the power pop thunder of the single 'Radio Caroline' and ends with the majestic Hammond B4 strains of 'Jolene'. In between the listener learns to 'Love Love' and 'Hate Hate'. There are biting lyrics and soaring guitar solos as we all 'Die laughing' at the mess the modern world has gotten itself into.
You are invited to purchase and enjoy this record. You would also serve yourself well to discover the history that brought rock music to the masses. The web sites below are a good starting point for and endlessly enjoyable journey.

Gun Street Radio Pirate Radio EP
author: UCA Radio - ScotlandIn delicate shades of 60s-inspired melodies, and the gloriously distinctive tones of the arrangements of those far off idyllic days, Gun Street Radio's latest EP is a delightful evocation of a long past, but dearly loved era. Drawing its inspiration from the heady days of radio Caroline and the pirates, these are well crafted tracks. With "Radio Caroline" probably the strongest of the tracks, one can almost hear the jingles and the voices, as the music gently bobs up and down, and the ebb and flow of the lyrics remind us of the innocent yet in-your-face attitude of the times of which they sing. A very welcome reminder of a fondly remembered era, and a tribute to the time when radio and music coalesced, turning spotty youth into rebels and reactionaries. Gun Street Radio are to be commended for reminding us of the power of revolting youth. Marcus Bowman UCA Radio 87.7FM and DAB
