notes
I believe in love. It's an essential part of human existence. There are so many great aspects to it, and not all of them are romantic: love, love lost, marriage, infatuation, longing, lust, frustration, love for animals, places, and things. It is not all cut and dry. There is no perfection, except perhaps in accepting the imperfection of our own understanding.
We put a lot into that little word. Yet, it's only through opening our hearts and acceptance do we really embrace and receive love back.
That is how I approached my new CD, A Tribute to Love. It's not just another love CD, all romantic and mushy. It's an internal journey through the ups and downs of love. And it is only a fragment of the experience that you may have shared in your life.
This album is not for everyone. I accept that this may not appeal to you in your current path in life. Yet, I hope when you are ready and you listen to the album, you will experience the emotions I experienced in making and releasing the album. I hope you will see it as more than just music, but a way to share your love with others.
Much love,
Marc Gunn
PS. I love this album. It is very special to me, and I don't feel I need to share it with everyone. If you are not in a place to love, don't buy this album. It is only for us romantics, that is the reason the price is higher than all my other CDs. Believe in love and experience magic.

Lovely, Soothing Music
author: Melissa McCauleyEach of these songs is beautiful and haunting, especially Marc’s instrumental pieces. Whenever I play this CD, I can feel the tension leave my neck and shoulders, and the crease between my eyebrows relaxing. (Well - except for Froggie Went-a-Courtin – I never did like that song) This has become a particular favorite as background music, along with A Faire to Remember, when I have some particularly frustrating thing to do at work, like auditing accounts. Better than Lopressor.
LOVE is everything
author: Mindy WashingtonThis is a remarkable album, and so soothing to the soul. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves folk and/or acoustic music. I listen to this with a couple others (Aryeh Frankfurter and Fionnuala Gill) in constant repetition as I drift off to sleep, and throughout the night. I always wake up in good spirits!
Utterly beautiful!
author: CarinnThis is an amazing journey through moods and genres and every song a delight. Some induce tears of joy, others tears of longing, and others a huge grin. As one who is still in the ashes, I look forward to track two every time I play this disc, as it is a (to me) hope-filled bit of musical joy. Also, ANY album feature a love song to one's cat is well worth the listen. Excellent work, Marc, and thank you.
Beautiful Love Song CD
author: Terri and the RadioIndy.com TeamMarc Gunn, storyteller of old meets modern romance in "A Tribute To Love." His warm, sweet, endearing qualities surely win the ladies over, while his lighthearted, yet masculine approach to the topic of love and romance directly speaks to real men. Marc's skillful autoharp playing adds a beautiful ambience to the songs on this CD. Lyrically speaking he is poetry by candlelight on a breezy spring evening, lulling the listener into relaxation, then springing a bit of wit and humor to the collection with our favorites, "Froggie Went A-Courtin'," and "Tiziano Gunn," a whimsical tribute to felines. So, pick up a copy especially if you are feminine / feline, or are in love with one.
A TRIBUTE TO LOVE!
author: Stormy BrownI got a chance to pre-review Marc Gunn's new album, A Tribute to Love. When I got the CD I was so excited and for very good reason! His CD is magical. His music takes me to other worlds has a way of making a very stressful day (Peaceful). Here is a Thank you to Marc Gunn's Mom for bringing such a wonderfully talented man into the world. (THANK YOU EVER DO MUCH) : )
A Tribute to Love
author: Peggi Warner-LalondeI jumped at the chance to review Marc Gunn's upcoming new CD "A Tribute to Love" for a couple of reasons: a) I really like the way he plays the autoharp, and b) I strongly dislike love songs :) That may sound like an odd reason to want to listen to something, but I figured if I liked the songs, it must really be a good CD. (Another indicator is if I start to hum along in harmony...) "A Tribute to Love" combines songs and instrumentals (my absolute favourite is "Silhouette of Longing Love"). Each one clearly demonstrates Marc's mastery of the autoharp. And not a one of them is soppy sweet! There are a couple of updated old classics, and even a love song to a cat. I found all of the songs to be uplifting and positive. And yes, I was humming along... (Did I mention I liked it?)
Best for Valintine's Day
author: Doug SThis CD is slightly different from what Marc has done with Andrew McKee in the Brobignagian Bards. Marc has ventured into other music areas than Celtic pub or Renaissance songs. By doing so he is "stretching" his musical repeater in a good way. With all of Marc's music his mastery of the autoharp rings through each song and melody. This is so true for the instrumentals "Silhouette of Longing Love," that captures an emotional journey of a hearts longing for a lost love through the ethereal sound of his autoharp, as well as "the Hobbit Journey Home," and "Marry for the Heart." Several of Marc's songs are in his balladry fashion describing the ups and downs of love including, "The Gosling Reborn," "When She Held Me in Her Arms," "Another Lonely Night," "Faint Heart Never," and "Star of the County Down." Of particular joy, in my opinion, Marc has shared with us some of the antics of his cat Tizianno. For those of use who love cats we can defiantly identify with "Tizianno Gunn." Marc's tribute to Anne of Green Gables, "Here's to the Dreamers" captures the essence of Anne as well of all of us who dream. Marc has also incorporated some "golden oldies" of love songs with "Froggie Went a Courtin'," and "Heart and Soul."
Marvin's Review
author: David LewisI posted this review when I first heard the CD, and Marc asked me to share it here: " I had a chance to listen to a preview copy of this CD and two songs in particular jump out (and for two different reasons). The first is the song "Tiziano Gunn", which (if you knew Marc Gunn) is the name of one of his cats. Marc is a member of the populace that's just a little better than most - those of us who love cats! (If you haven't bought his CD, "Irish Drinking Songs For Cat Lovers" then you are missing out on one of the best cat-related bits of music I've ever had the pleasure of listening to). The fact that he included this wonderful "cat" song to his tribute to love is what makes it stand out. It tells us that maybe it's time for him to find the elusive love of his life (not knocking a man's love for his cats but if you're going to have a CD of love songs you really wouldn't expect one devoted to one's 4 legged companions). Marc, dude, you're not trying hard enough! Surely you've caught the eye of one of the pretty lasses at one of the many rennaisance faires. Still, thanks for including it...it wouldn't be a true Marc Gunn CD without one of those great cat songs. The scond tune that stands out is "Heart and Soul" (Not to be confused with the "Monkees" title by the same name). This song is a classic, and catches in your head like "It's a Small World" without the visual of animated dolls. Everyone's heard the tune before (especially if you're in beginning piano lessons) and Marc makes this song flow and latch on to your brain in a happy way. It's also the last track of the CD (and a great way to end), and as long as you don't suffer Triskaidekaphobia you'll find this CD an important part of any collection be it Celtic-style music (although these songs are pure Gunn), Love songs, or just Marc Gunn Songs (of note, autograph copies of the CD will also be available) Marvin would have rated this a solid 8.966399612 out of 10 but he had to add an extra point for the inclusion of "Tiziano Gunn" for a grand total of 9.966399612 out of 10!!!" In short- this is one of Marc's best CD's, and a definate MUST HAVE for anyone!
A novel approach to love songs
author: Joe WebbThis album contains exactly what you would not expect if you thought it would contain cliche drippy love songs. It attempts to tackle the complexity of emotions connected with love in real life: joy and bliss, hopefulness, some silliness, and the less pleasant feelings love can leave after it's gone. In my opinion, The Gosling Reborn is one of the real high points of the album (and Silhouette of Longing Love makes for great music to study by, incidentally).
A Tribute to Love, a great albulm
author: Christie BushI've just finished listening to Marc Gunn's new album, "A Tribute to Love", and I must honestly say that it was great. Don't get me wrong, I love The Brobdingnagian Bards, but sometimes you need a little more to your music. Sometimes you just want to be able to sit there and lose yourself in the tune. I loved the perfect mix of purely instrumental songs to those with lyrics. For example, the song "Silhouette of Longing Love" has a soft melody that I find allows me to easily lose myself in my imagination, while "Tiziano Gunn" provides something more like a comedic story about his cat. The album offers a variety of moods to fit almost every situation. You'll also find that you are already familiar with many of the tracks, including his rendition of "Heart and Soul." My favorite, by far though, is "The Gosling Reborn", with its slightly deeper melody and the flow of Gunn's voice allows for a truly pleasing sound. So if you like the Bards, the harp, or anything remotely Celtic, then I suggest you check out "A Tribute to Love", by Marc Gunn.
A Tribute To Love
author: Anna NStepping outside of his usual Celtic and Cat-based style, Marc Gunn's A Tribute to Love is something, as he says himself, closer to what he was doing before he'd joined the Brobdingnagian Bards. Like love itself, A Tribute to Love is a roller coaster of emotion put to lyrical format. The accompaniment of Marc's autoharp adds an elemnt not found in other love themed CDs. The songs blend well together, with a few odd ball songs tossed in, "Froggie Goes A Courtin'" for example. The CD won't be to everyone's tastes, but what CDs are? But if you're looking for a CD that shows the good, the bad, and the ugly of relationships then A Tribute to Love is for you.
A Tribute to Love
author: Rachel O.Oh, Marc, you've done it again! I used to review music for my on-campus newspaper, and now I'm back in the saddle...maybe. Anyway, "A Tribute to Love" is just that: a tribute. To love. Be it romantic love, or love for friends and family, or even love for great music (like this CD!), Marc has done an amazing job with this project. The blend between rock-like vocal edge and the gentleness of the autoharp...well, there's nothing like it...in a good way. Silhouette of Love is a perfect way to start the project off, with a great instrumental, just like The Hobbit Journey Home, which conjures Samwise Gamgee heading home to Rosie and the children on a bright autumn afternoon. Gunn is great at exploring the tenderness of both his voice and autoharp, and here, the autoharp has a voice of its own, exploring much of the musical romp and taking you along on the ride! Star of the County Down is one of my favourite Irish folksongs, and while not as raucous as some versions I've heard, it goes well with the rest of the album, and keeps your attention with the driving, percussive sound of the autoharp, fitting in well with the lyrical nature of the song. Heart and Soul is a great rendition of a classic song, and it brought back very fond memories of playing it on the piano with my friends after church. He's also done some great renditions of classic folksongs, like Froggie Went A-Courtin', and really builds an eerie sort of mysticism in The Gosling Reborn (which might just make it on constant repeat on my iPod). In fact, The Gosling Reborn and A Faint Heart really bookend well together, and I'd love to hear these back to back live. Tiziano Gunn was my least favourite, but I think it was due to the middle of the disc doldrums that some listeners seem to get (I most certainly do). It's an adorable song, but just a bit too slow for my liking, especially with the placement here. On the whole, it's a fabulous album! Just get the CD. You'll love it, I promise. It's a great album for drinking that glass of wine with your sweetie, and snuggling and watching the fire crackle on those chilly autumn nights.
A Tribute to Love
author: Susan P.Marc Gunn's "A Tribute to Love" is not what you might expect - and that's precisely why I like it so much. Really, I was predisposed to enjoy this CD anyway, being such a fan of the Brobdinagian Bards. Oh, yes, all the songs on this new solo CD are indeed about love, but not just the romantic variety. In fact, one selection, (and one of my favorites) "Tiziano Gunn," is a gentle, sweet tune about ... one of his cats. Being the human of two cats myself, who gets all melty inside with that "liquid eyes" thing they can do, this is one song I can sure relate to. Even with the songs that do directly discuss romance, you won't find syrupy ballads - another reason I like it so much. (A sentimentalist I am, but too much goo and you've lost me.) In some, there's an ecstatic celebration of finding the true love you so want, in others, there's a recognition that sometimes it goes wrong - but remaining hopeful, nonetheless, and all sung in a warm, heartfelt voice that just gives me tingles. Now, a few more words about some favorites (they're all wonderful, but these are the ones that stand out to me): *"Another Lonely Night": Ah, so intimate and longing this is, a perfect portrayal of how it feels to be away from a loved one. I hope this doesn't offend, but it sort of has a flavor of Jimmy Buffett's "Come Monday" - in emotions, that is, not in the music or lyrics. And as "Come Monday" is one of my favorite songs ever, that's a compliment. *"A Faint Heart": Though written from a guy's perspective, this hit close to home - maybe a bit too close in the line about a heart trampled. *"Heart and Soul": A welcome reminder that that old ditty most of us have plonked out on the piano does have words, quite lovely ones, actually, about falling head over heels. *"They Call Me Crazy": Oh, my ... the reasons I adore this one are, um, not exactly repeatable in polite company - and no, for me, not even on the semi-anonymity of the Internet. However, if you want to ask me nicely and privately and offer some expensive dark chocolate, I might just answer. Or, better yet, buy the CD and listen for yourself, and you'll probably figure it out.

Great album that you simply must hear. It brings music back to it's basics: all songs tell a story and bring up the emotions. This is a CD you simply must love. I can only agree on what others have written here as well.
A Tribute To Love
author: KatherineWOW....Marc's ability to touch people with his music is a gift we are all lucky he shares....his insight into the many levels and types of love will take you on a journey that will truly touch your heart, make you smile, bring a tear to your eye and take you within yourself to a place where love exists in so many ways, and all this with a wee bit of magic tossed in for good measure....I love the way Silhouette Of Longing Love and The Gosling Reborn were put next to each other, it creates about 9 minutes of ethereal delight (although what I got from the song, A Gosling Reborn, and what Marc meant were two different things, either way, to me, it touched my heart)....The Hobbit Journey Home brought tears to my eyes, I think I'm familiar with that journey....and then there's Here's To The Dreamers - this song has a memory for me that goes deep into my soul....there's nothing in this album that I don't like, and you know, you just have to love a man who writes a love song to his cat....thanks Marc....A Tribute To Love is what we all need
A Tribute to Love
author: Marvin P. RobotYou have it all here (including one of Marc's infamous Cat songs). You have both old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, and it's all Marc Gunn at his finest! Of particular note is "When She Held Me in Her Arms" which is guaranteed to bring a smile to your lady fair. My particular favorite is his rendition of "Heart and Soul". This CD is for everyone (as are all of Marc's CD's). It's better than chocolates and lasts much longer than flowers.
Love it!
author: RaenellA Tribute to Love is about more than just romance, it's about love of all kinds. Marc does an awesome job of blending romance, longing, dreams, a bit of self-exploration, and of course, cats. The sound comes across as a bit less acoustic than some of his previous work, but overall, it works well. My top 4 from the album are: Heart & Soul ***I absolutely adore Marc’s version of this song! It has become the first song I queue up when someone is in the car with me that hasn’t heard Marc before. Here's to the Dreamers ***because I've begun, especially in the last year to act on my dreams, instead of just dreaming them The Hobbit Journey ***I find this one to be kind of upbeat and soothing at the same time. I'm sure once I manage to finish re-reading my Tolkien, I'll get an even better feel for the tune Tiziano Gunn ***You have to love a song written especially for a cat! I can just see the cat doing all of it! Love is a wonderful thing, and if we could all open ourselves to love that is other than romantic, the world could be a much more beautiful place, I think. I'd have to say overall it's a wonderful piece of work and would make an awesome addition to any CD collection.
