The G. Scott Jones Freedom Ensemble is built on the
four principles of Hip Hop: Peace, Love, Unity, and
Having Fun. It is our desire to entertain and share our
stories with our audience. We perform music ranging
from Be Bop to Hip Hop; from Swing to the Avant-garde.

G. Scott Jones, leader and trombonist, holds a
Master’s of Music from the University of Michigan, and
possesses a Bachelor’s of Music from Central State
University. He is a native of Pontiac, MI. He has
performed and/or recorded with a variety of musicians
and musical groups, including: Nomo, Spyder Turner,
The National Jazz Orchestra of Detroit, Saturday Looks
Good To Me, Yours Truly, Hullabaloo, Descarga, and
Donald Walden.

Mario Abney, trumpeter, has a Bachelor’s of Music from Central State University. He is a native of Chicago, IL where he started playing the piano at age seven. He later chose the drums and trumpet. Mario is the leader of the Mario Abney Quintet. He has been influenced by the sounds of gospel, jazz, hip-hop and the likes Armstrong, Clifford Brown, and Roy Hargove.

Chris Slone, bassist, is a native of Yellow Springs, OH and an active performer in the Dayton, Cincinnati,
and Columbus area. He is a senior at Central State University where he is majoring in Jazz Studies. He performs regularly with the Freedom Ensemble, the Mario Abney Quintet, and the Afro-Rican Ensemble.

Julian “Blade” Addison, drummer, He has a hip-hop background and is a Dayton, OH native. He brings an intense fire to the drums. In addition to having played with the Cincinnati Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and Dayton Philharmonic, he is in high demand as one of the premier drummers in the Miami Valley.
