notes

Gruvis Malt started in 1995 in basements and attics. In 1997, Gruvis Malt was introduced to the world opening for Huey Lewis and The News in 48 markets worldwide. When things with Huey took a turn for the worst, GM started writing whole albums about the falling out, and sending them to Huey's ex-girlfriends. This brought them more notoriety and critical acclaim given that most of the world was relieved to have their disdain for Lewis and his News verbalized so proficiently by a rock band. Soon the band had released 7 albums mocking Huey Lewis and His News, and the world was bored with them. So they did some crap called Futurock.

What a smoothly blended mixture of fresh jazzlike rythms and lyrical poetry. Has music dubbed this band sound soldiers???

Best stuff you'll hear EVER! Unless you get something else by these guys then you'll have TWO OF THE GREATESTS EVER! Actually its perfect for that pimp in the house getting ready to twist the head off some fresh skin. Already a classic and never old school. Sound Soldiers.

  • exactly what I was looking for

Sound Soldiers was exactly what I was looking for, a great blend of jazz and funk. Tons better than what is on the radio these days. Looking forward to hearing the other cd's, and ordering from cdbaby again.

funky, melodic, unlike anything that was out at its time. it rocks in too many ways.

  • Great melodies, beats, lyrics, one of my favorite albums

I've listened to Sound Soldiers like it was my job. This is good music, for real. Eclectic style that somehow meshes perfectly including Jazz, Funk, Rap, Latin, Rock, Electronic and something possibly of alien origin. Skilled musicians, catchy melodies, interesting lyrics, timing changes and greatness. DJ Mr. Rourke is also featured on the album, the scratching is incredible, and its only 12 bucks.

  • Better than Mr. Baseball

While this is some of Gruvis's earler works, it is still amazing. Sound Soldiers is a far different sound than Traffic Jam or Simon, it is much more upbeat and like they describe. Very fun and creative music, and it is also great to see the earlier stages of one of the most creative bands of our time.
