notes

ISWM Top Pick of the Month - The moody undertones of Julie's voice set the right tone for this understated piece of songwriting pleasure. The stories are simple, yet when delivered by Julie, they take on subtle shades of interpretation.

Her relaxed handling of the lyrics creates a sense of shadowed indifference to the stories being conveyed. Julie Grower proves that even small changes in vocal tone or minute shifts in the music can excel the songs to brave new heights of glory. Julie Grower makes it look so easy, and makes it sound so good.
- Independent Songwriter Web-Magazine

Les Reynolds of Indie-Music.com says:
"From listening to this CD, it appears this young singer/songwriter has stripped away all the pretense, affectations and trimmings to get to the heart of her own true sound."

"In A New Light" was produced by Julie Grower and Jon Gordon (who has served as musical director and guitarist for Suzanne Vega and Madonna). Gordon also handles much of the instrumental work on the album. The album also features Lisa Haney on Cello, Robert Sheridan on Guitar, Chris Benelli on Drums, Kenny Kosek on Violin, and Charlie Giordano on Accordian, among others.

  • Honest, Real,

I enjoyed Julies Music. the lericks are really honest and real. Both genders can relate to a broken heart/relationship in there lives and both can relate to taking a chance again on new love! The flavor of the CD is Country-ish I would say. as a rule of thum I am not a big country music fan but I found this CD quite enjoyable. I would recomend it. I have shaired it with lots of friends and all have given positive reviews.

  • ...beautifully quiet little album...

This beautifully quiet little album is starting to get under my skin. The album’s got that well produced subtlety that just kind of taps you on the shoulder until you can’t help but let it become a friend.

  • A Treasure Chest of Songs
    author: Jon Sobel

Julie Grower is a songwriter's songwriter… Grower's minimally inflected vocals work well on the jazz-blues tunes like "Here Comes the Storm" and "Bad Boys," during which one imagines oneself in a cabaret drinking a whiskey sour, glancing at the singer through a haze of smoke while casing the joint for romantic possibilities… as our President might say, make no mistake: on the evidence of this treasure chest of songs, Julie Grower is a songwriter to watch.

  • Crisp melody driven songs
    author: Songwriter's Monthly

Julie's angelic voice delicately renders snapshots of life and love. Her sultry snarl in "Bad Boys" is a pleasant shocker. Grower has a knack for penning tunes that reside comfortably in your ear.

  • A terrific album of a great singer/songwriter
author: Jos Van Den Boom (crossroads, Brto-radio, Bergen Op Zoom, Hollan

In my view Julie Grower is a great singer and songwriter. She sounds a bit like Carly Simon but that doesn’t matter at all. In a new light is a terrific album although it only dues for 30 minutes. You’re better off with half an hour top songs than twice as much music of a lower quality, isn’t it? Purchase this fabulous album as soon as possible!
