notes

*******************************************************
This vintage album is a classic collection of cherished Lithuanian children's songs sung by children. Almost thirty years ago, three Lithuanian families from Chicago's North Shore recorded these nursery rhymes in an effort to preserve the Lithuanian culture which was then under Communist government. This album is an excellent collection of International Children's songs, verses, and music!

If you are interested in a digital download of this album, please click the "add MP3 to cart" link on the left-hand side of this page.

This album is a collection of international children's songs, verses, and music specifically from the Baltic and Eastern European Regions. Play this album for your children in order to tune your child's ear into hearing new and interesting languages. Our global world emands that we, and especially our children, know of differences between people throughout our world. Singing along or just following these songs willhelp the tongue to respond to new sounds in languages other than the native language. This will help to open up their mind to new concepts and new possibilities. Children learn to adapt to changes in their lives if their minds are stretched at an early stage in their development.

This album is FANTASTIC background music for the perfect Lithuanian baby shower! After the shower is over, put this CD back into its case, and give it to the mother-to-be as a keepsake gift and for future use!

This album qualifies for one hour of listening to a recording of ethnic musical style songs for the Eagle Scout "Music" Merit Badge. This is an interesting twist on earning the "Music" Merit Badge because the Lithuanian Campfire Songs album is sung by Lithuanian Scouts who follow the US Scout Curriculum, except in a different language. The words to the songs are provided on this web page. The melodies are provided on this album. Just print the words out, and follow them while you are playing these songs on your music player. They are easy-to-learn, sing-along songs. For a show of creativity, create your own words to these melodies. When you do meet a Lithuanian Scout, sing these songs to him/her and you will have made an instant friend. This album makes a great Lithuanian gift!

this cd flew all the way to tasmania and touched 4 generations at one time, it has poems and stories our grandmother tried her best at translating as we (3rd and 4th generation) grew up. I couldn't recommend it higher, it is so much fun!

There is nothing in the world like hearing your child say, "I want to hear Zuikis Puikis"

  • This CD is awesomely authentic.
    author: R. Carney

This CD is exactly what I wanted. As a child, my mother would tell these stories to me and now I can listen to them again. It has brought back wonderful memories. Thank you so much.

  • This language was lost over the year, but now I've found it.
    author: Beverly Kerlick Bruns

My great-great-great grandparents were the first Lithuanians in Texas. I was not taught any words but now I can hear them and am learning words. I feel there is now a true connection to my heritage. The CD is distinct and I find it easy to repeat words.

  • Wonderful songs for Lithuanian babies.

  • Helps in comprehending spoken lithuanian
    author: John Podgwaite

I'm sure this is a great CD for kids, but that's not why I bought it. Spoken lithuanian is tough to understand for someone like myself who is beginning to learn to speak the language. Most of the nursery rhymes, poems, and songs on this CD are done relatively slowly and very clearly and are a great help in learning some vocabulary and the intonation and cadence of lithuanian speech. If you haven't grown up in a lithuanian household, this CD is not only entertaining but also a valuable learning tool.

  • I love it! Taip myliu!
    author: David

So wonderful to find a disk of songs and rhyming tales for my son to listen to as he grows up. I never imagined I would be able to find something like this in America, but I did, Aciu, ir vel aciu. Dekingas jums esu toks!

  • Fantastic!
    author: Rita, formerly of Montreal

I too grew up listening to this LP, and remember it fondly. Now that the days of vinyl are behind us, I NEVER thought I would be able to play these songs to my kids. As another reviewer said, the pronunciation is flawless and clear. These poems and songs bring back sweet memories to those of us who have heard them before, and will help create new ones for the next generation of children of lithuanian heritage. I am also impressed that you were able to include, on the website, the entire transcript of lyrics with English translation. THANK YOU and please keep this in stock!

    author: Dana From Virginia

Thank you so much for putting out this CD. I am constantly looking for Lithuanian music for my baby. My husband is in the military and since we move around a lot we don't always land in a country where there are any Lithuanian communities. My brother-in-law sent us the link to this CD.

  • Thank you so much for putting this on CD.

I hope you can get more Lithuanian Language CDs: either spoken word or songs/folk songs! I miss hearing the language/speaking the language on a daily basis! I can't wait to get this CD in the mail! Thanks, Milda Tautvydas.
