(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Play On is a collection of summery grooves from Greg Waters of The Cool Waters Band. This album goes great with cookouts, sailing, margaritas, slip n slides, horseshoes, ice cream sandwiches, beer bongs. you get the point.

notes

Greg Waters' distinctive and wondrous voice really shines on this album. It showcases a softer side of Greg but he lets it rip and flexes his considerable rock chops on a couple of songs, too. His confident songwriting evokes everything from sunshine and a hopeful view of things to cynicism, resignation and disappointment. The band is spot-on and the cd sounds fantastic. Greg's post Cool Waters Band period has begun brightly! This record is, for me, now part of the soundtrack to the summer of 2007.

Greg Waters’ album “Play On” is a pleasant and refreshing debut from the chief songwriter of the now defunct Cool Waters Band. Once again demonstrating his various commands of musical tastes, Waters’ compositions provide the listener with a vast array of tones and arrangements, but never seeming to stray from the roots of what has made Waters an established and sought-after songwriter. Dare I say he somehow amasses the influences of The Black Crowes with Sublime and the Animal Liberation Orchestra without abandoning the listener. The acoustic-tinged Escondito sounds like a great movie soundtrack while “City in the Sun” will impress the most modern of music gurus. Title track “Play On” is an epic rocker that showcases the cohesiveness of Waters’ studio band, The Broad Street Boogie. This debut solo album is concise, well-crafted, diverse and intelligent. It should remain in my immediate play list for sometime in my car, and probably re-visited on a daily basis. Keep a cold one in the hand and a smile on your face, and listen to Greg Waters.
