notes
While Greenwich Meantime is a new band on the Celtic music scene they are far from rookies to the circuit. The band is made up of a group of talented young musicians hailing from Eastern Ontario, Canada. Collectively they have spent years playing in some of the most popular Celtic bands to have come out of Canada in the last decade. The band consists of Shelley Downing, James Libbey, Nigel Gibson, and Steph McAlear all of who did time with the Glengarry Bhoys, and Nicholas Matthew, who headed the band Haggis through 2000 & 2001. Separately they have also played with The Brigadoons, Hadrian’s Wall, and Shenanigans to name just a few.
While staying true to their Celtic heritage, the group combines all of their creative energy to perform shows that are exciting and new. Anyone who has already seen them in their element can attest to the fact that they are some of the most captivating and energetic performers around. Their brand new self-titled debut CD features powerful vocal performances by Matthew, Downing, and McAlear, and instrumentals featuring Libbey on Highland pipes and whistles, and Ms Downing’s legendary fiddle playing. Holding down the fort is the rhythm section and cousin team of Nigel Gibson and Steph McAlear. All of this combined presents a powerful new sound and colorful show that is already the buzz of the circuit.
This year will see the band performing at festivals, theatres, and music halls all over the US and Canada. Their 16-track debut album featuring original works from all five members is receiving rave reviews, and is being actively marketed to radio and retail.

Great celtic rock
author: FranckReally great music; some songs being more rock and others more traditional, but all are great. The "Summertime" cover ("Living easy") is really nice.

I got a chance to see Greenwich Meantime play live at The Celtic Classic in Bethlehem PA for 3 days and that was the most fun I had at a performance in a long time.
