notes
"I can't really say when it started," says singer / songwriter Jennifer Greenawalt. "All I know is that, for as long as I can remember, music has defined me. It has been my outlet for every emotion, and it's gotten me through some pretty rough times."
Her debut album, Scratching the Surface, was released independently in September 2001 and was quickly picked up by indie label Bailey Records and re-released in January 2002. "It was my first real attempt at honing my musical skills," says the artist. "It was five songs with voice and piano. It was simple, but it was a start." It was also a success. By June 2002, Jennifer had racked up over 400 downloads on her mp3 site and sold over 350 copies of her album without leaving the state of Ohio.
No Regrets is technically the second release for Jennifer, but in many ways it seems like her first. "This album took a lot more time and energy than the first," she says. "I was working with a guitarist, bassist and drummer, and I was working with 10 songs instead of only 5. There were moments when I couldn't believe how hard I was working for something that seemed like it was never going to be completed. In the end, though, the finished product was worth every minute in and out of the studio."
One of the things that sets Jennifer apart from other artists of her genre is her choice of lyrics. "People ask me all the time what my songs are about. Most of the time they are about things that have happened to me. Some of the time they are about things I see happening to other people. I never set boundaries as to exactly whom they should speak to. You can take the words to mean whatever you choose."
Currently, Jennifer is touring with her band throughout the state of Ohio as well as surrounding areas. "I really feel that this is what I was meant to do. I'm going to ride this wave until it comes to a stop, and then I'm going to get off and walk away. And I'll do it all with no regrets."
