The best of Greasy Kid Stuff, the WFMU hit Saturday morning radio show. Broadcast weekly throughout the New York City area, this playfully ironic take on kids' music is now available for the first time ever on one CD. Many of its songs are previously unreleased.

From 1995 to the present, Greasy Kid Stuff has served as a cultural touchstone for hip parents and their equally discerning children. Through weekly Internet broadcasts and archived shows, the program's popularity has spread not only throughout the New York metropolitan area, but nationally and internationally as well.

These tracks, culled from the upper ranks of the annual "Best of Greasy Kid Stuff" countdowns, mark the first commercial release of a Greasy Kid Stuff compilation. Parents and children alike can and will groove, jive and bop to the infectious and funky music on this album!

Hova Najarian and Belinda Miller (real-life husband and wife) hatched the Greasy Kid Stuff show (GKS) in 1995, while volunteering at landmark freeform radio station WFMU in the New York City/New Jersey area. In the beginning, the show was broadcast Saturday mornings, 9-10 am. But immediately the WFMU baby-boomers-with-kids-audience latched on. Apparently even the hippest parents can still use some shut-eye on the weekends. Within a year, the show became so popular that it was expanded and moved to the prime Saturday 10am-noon slot.

Since the show's inception, Hova and Belinda believed and programmed as if there was room for more than rainbow-suspendered singer-songwriters in the world of kids' music. The press concurred; New York magazine praise GKS as "a spunky kids' program that pledges no Raffi" and named it "Best Kids' Radio Show" in 1997. Around the same time, New York CitySearch said that GKS was "not only the best kids' program in the New York area, it just might be the best radio program of any sort." Time Out New York, a bible for the culturally hip of NYC, chimed in, applauding GKS as "a kids' show that won't drive parents crazy."

"Greasy Kid Stuff: Songs from Inside the Radio" is a CD compilation of some of the most beloved songs from the radio show. The show and now this timesaving compilation--draws "kids' music" from the previously untapped indie rock world to introduce a wide variety of artists and tunes. Many of these songs come from albums which Hova and Belinda say would be inappropriate for kids. One of their mottoes is: "We do the work, so parents don't have to."
