notes

After a lifetime of absorbing musical influences from all over the dial, and a few years of batting his eyes at the music industry from a satellite outpost in Washington, D.C., The Gray Kid split from his band in early 2004 and moved to New York City to finally kiss the girl. Signing with World’s Fair Management, home to the Flaming Lips, Tortoise, Devendra Banhart, El-P & Beans, he plunged head first into the thriving music scene of downtown NYC. Four months later he was hosting the PLUG Independent Music Awards, sharing the stage with Aesop Rock, Rjd2, Ted Leo, Saul Williams, Sufjan Stevens and The Dillinger Escape Plan. A few weeks after that he was headlining the 2005 XBOX Big Day Out Snowboard Competition in Val D’Isere, France, where he joined two of Europe’s premier DJ’s and stole the show in front of 10,000 people who discovered what the rest of the world will soon find out - the boy can move a CROWD. Since then, his self-styled underground pop has been winning fans of all genres and walks of life, from indie hipsters to hip hoppers, models to mods, jocks to journalists. Having earned a devoted following in NYC from consistent gigging and the resulting word-of-mouth buzz, The Gray Kid treats his fans to a one-man show unlike any other. Equal parts Mick Jagger and L.L. Cool J, Noel Gallagher and Eminem, this mic wrecking, song writing, hip shaking, guitar playing, soul crooning, music making dynamo drops electrified, Jeep-beat anthems that’ll shake your speakers and make you shake your ass. And if that’s not enough, he writes the kind of insanely catchy melodies and magnetic hooks that will keep you singing his songs all day long. Just when you’re worked up into a proper lather, he shatters your illusions with one of his space-age love songs. Clever, cocksure, and charming. Honest, earnest and vulnerable. This is an artist set to redefine what “It” is. With industry buzz mounting and his website and blog taking on a life of their own, The Gray Kid is hitting Winter 2006 on the good foot with the release of his LP “…5,6,7,8.”

This CD has alot in it... So many kinds of styles, beats, vocal styles. singing, rapping, all kinds of stuff.. All of the beats are good and interesting.. not run of the mill crap. When i listen to this, and im not kidding,.. his original style goes in directions of Beck, and prince.. eclectic, dripping with style and COOL AS FUCK. when i listen to this i feel cooler than i did when i wasnt listening to it. HAHA but im serious.

  • The more I play it, the more I like it.

The more I play it, the more I like it. (I'm almost 55 years old, but I was always known as "the cool Mom" to my kids' friends.) I hope The Gray Kid doesn't look at an old lady liking his music as a bad thing. I do wish the CD came with lyrics. P.S. I'd love to hear his story regarding Robin Givens!

If your sick of the same old played out stuff on the radio, this is the joint for you. Not only is his range amazing. But his bravery to tackle the ecletic genre of music proves to be like no other. Hands down, this album is badass!

  • a good time.

I don't know too much about hip hop or rap music. I do know that if this CD doesn't get you dancing, nothing will. My only criticism is that the content of his songs seems a bit limited (booty-shakin, money-makin, etc etc), but I haven't heard any of his acoustic stuff yet, so I could be wrong. And I certainly have nothing against booty-shakin; otherwise, I wouldn't like this CD so much.

  • Fucking Awesome

  • A Star is Born....
    author: Karin "LaRocKera" Zambrano

Intelligent and an absolute talent in a mix of witty rhymes and impelling thoughts created in a fashion that has your head bopping and ass shaking. You listen in with keen interest to catch his phrasing and smile in agreement. 5,6,7,8 proves his great range of musical talent and leaves you wanting more. A true artist from the writing skills to the producing and recording straight to his stage performance! From the DC suburbs a star is born. Be aware, we'll be hearing alot more of The Gray Kid!
