  • This is a must for every devoted US Metal freak
    author: Toine van Poorten, NL

Very high vocals and a powerful beat. Okay, you have my attention. “Warn The Children” is a great opener on this compilation album of GRAVEN IMAGE. It captures some songs of the band, recorded in 1982 already, the picture disc version of “Warn The Children” / “No Rest For The Wicked” and “The Dungeon Demos”. All together worthy of twelve great old school US Metal songs and a playing time of about fifty-five minutes. The sound of the demo recordings is a bit stuffy and softer than the other songs, but it’s the exclusivity that counts with these kind of products. The big man behind GRAVEN IMAGE is Rob Griffin. He has put this all together. The underground sound, this band created, has got some influences of old school IRON MAIDEN (Paul Di Anno era) here and there. Just listen to the way “Wings Of War” is build up, for example. But then with a singer with a much higher voice. “Locked And Loaded” has a heavy drum sound and is build upon some strong, solid riffs. Most of the demo songs are instrumentals, but they still give you a good idea of the strength of this band. One of the highlights is “Graven Image” / “Fool’s Tomorrow”, a medley of two songs, that starts slowly and ends with an uptempo part in the second song. I wonder, what it would sound like with lyrics. Now it’s more like a long instrumental jam of about seven and a half minutes, yet still sounding very exciting. The CD, which is also available on vinyl, sold many copies at the metal market at the Keep It True festival last April. I think, we can talk about a real cult classic here, that is a must for every devoted US Metal freak out there.

  • Classic 80's traditonal power metal at it's best
    author: Michael Danyo

The re-releases here are on a CDR, and done quite professionally. This is traditional 80's power metal at it's best. It's nice to finally be able to get both ep's on disc format professionally. Graven Image is yet another 80's underground band overlooked during their prime. The songs are catchy and made me what to take on a pack of lions after listening, along with bringing back the memories and real days of metal.

  • Pure 80s power metal for collectors.
    author: Oliver K

This is a must-have for anyone into pure 80s metal, since the vinyl is near impossible to find and fetches steep prices. Be aware, however, that this is a CD-R with an extremely cheap photocopied cover and as such is a bit overpriced. Music-wise it's great stuff, nonetheless.

  • Definition of metal!
    author: Metalpriest

In 1984 Graven Image released the record that brings the word metal to the point. The 1984 e.p. was not only a musically lucky-punch. It was also the beginning of a legend. That Graven Image had the ability to write neckbreaking metalsongs was again shown in 1987, when they re-recorded the two ep-tracks and a new song called 'the house'. Again they delivered the perfect declaration of what real metal is to the world and nearly none took notice. Now, more than 20years after the release of 'people in hell...', Rob release his dream in combination with some demosongs for the first time on cd. And as you can listen here, they all are real classics of ass-kickin' metal. REAL METAL. No trendy stuff or crap. It's nearly a shame that the double-pack 'Graven Image/Fool's tomorrow' didn't saw the light of day (or hell :) ) never before. The enormous power coming out of these songs, has something like magik in it. If i personally need to declare to a non-metalhead what metal is. I play this record. I know no other record that defines metal in such a perfect and wonderful way like this. Go and catch it! If you ain't a metalhead, you might as well be dead!

  • Rob Griffin, then and now
    author: Lucky

Rob Griffin is a guitar legend. His vocals and stylings are reminiscent of Judas Priest, and yet still original. I met him only a few years ago, and he played me some of his music and help me tune up my guitar. If you don't buy this cd, then you don't like heavy metal!--WOOF!!
