notes
Tucson based, Leo A. Gosselin is a pioneer and master of the "Chapman Stick Touchboard".
The "Stick" represents a revolution in stringed instrument music technology.
Designed in ten and twelve stringed versions with the right hand tuned like a guitar and the left hand tuned like a cello in reverse, the "Stick" is played percussively, with both hands free to sketch melodic lines in the manner of a keyboard.
Leo performs on a twelve string "Grand Stick" with a totally captivating sound.
"Potpourri" is Gosselin's collaborative work which was released in 2000 and reflects the multi-stylistic character of his live performances.
This charming album highlights Leo's mastery of this unique double-handed tapping instrument in a wide variety of genres and styles.
Four themes - Celtic, Ballads, Latin/Jazz, and Originals performed with a number of gifted guest artists, show Leo's versatility and evolution with his instrument.
Musical guests include Greg Black (drums), Susan Hammer (Irish Whistle), Steve Hilliam (Alto Sax), Bob Fuhr (Keyboard), Ty Rogers (Zendrum), and Pat Joyce (Grand Piano).
Each of the twenty tracks is a listening treasure, intricately crafted to please a broad audience.
From the sensitive and delicate touches Leo bestows on O'Carolan's "Captain O'Kane" and Baardman's "LaSalle River Waltz", to the smooth sounds of Latin/Jazz classics such as Carlos Jobim's "Wave" and the brilliant world music flavours of his original orchestrations, you will be captivated.
Leo Gosselin's bright panorama radiates pure joy.
Enjoy one of the innovative musical treats of the year.
