Gordon Chambers is no stranger to the music industry. In fact, he has been writing songs since the age of 7! The Teaneck, New Jersey native is currently signed to L.A. Reid's prestigious Hitco Music publishing company where has written for over 60 recording artists, including household names Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, Usher, Brandy, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan and Marc Anthony. He is best known for his 1994 Grammy- winning hit "I Apologize" for Anita Baker and his 1995 #1 Grammy-nominated smash "If You Love Me" for the trio Brownstone (which was later featured as the theme song of the film "Living Out Loud").

More recently, the eight-time ASCAP winner penned tunes for superstars The Isley Brothers ("Just Came Here To Chill"), Yolanda Adams ("Someone Watching Over Me"), Patti Labelle & Ron Isley ("Gotta Go Solo"), Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown ("My Love"), R&B crooner Carl Thomas ("My Valentine"), breakthrough soul singer Angie Stone "No More Rain (In This Cloud)" and pop sensation Beyonce ("After All Is Said And Done"). Over the years, his compositions have been performed at the ESSENCE awards, the American Music Awards and the Goodwill Games--as well as six major motion pictures.

Songwriting still doesn't feel like a job to the Brooklyn-based still-single Chambers. It is, instead, he says, "a labor of love and a dream come true." As a way of giving back, he performs for charities and frequently speaks to students all over the country. He has received community service awards from the New York youth organizations Boys Harbor and the Bay Shore Schools Arts Education Fund,.

Over the last three years, Chambers has been performing up a storm in New York City, DC, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, London and a set at the 2005 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. "This has been a labor of love," he says. "After working with so many of my idols, the time came for me to work on my own project and express some things that only I could say." Produced by Chambers with Troy Taylor (B2K), Barry Eastmond (Anita Baker) and Brian Bacchus (Norah Jones), the album is classic R&B with hints of his first love: jazz. The album features Carl Thomas, Glen Lewis, Roy Hargrove and Mike Phillips and was nominated by Soultracks.com as Best Independent Soul Album of the year, and Chamber was featured on the cover of Billboard on July 1, 2006 on a story highlighting the independent soul movement.

Chambers has recently done sold-out New York City showcases at BB Kings, Joe's Pub, S.O.B's and will be appearing at many more venues in 2007, promoting his new sophomore album Love Stories (which features duets with Ledisi and Melonie Daniels).     Gordon should change his name to "Smooth Operator." He definitely understands the difference between melodic and monotonous. I like the astute choice of song samples used in distinctly unique and enhanced ways. He got me with the strains of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" in "Touch You There" and didn't let me go until the CD was over. He also takes the Anita Baker song "I Apologize" and got me to like it (which I didn't before). The CD highlight for me is "My Funny Valentine." Now that we've been introduced Gordon Chambers, I expect to here from you soon!!!!

    Cover to cover one of the most underated CD's of all time. Track # 7 is the weakest track on this CD. It's fast and a Duet. But it's not bad at all. Get through track # 7 then Gordon switches to a Jazz/Gospel groove. Great CD no complaints. Though it was made in 2004 the beats are Def. For years to come the beats will be up to date.

    Ive seen and heard Gordan live ( albeit over 10 years ago in Miami Beach)...he is a master of voice and piano...in the Brian Mcknight category..however "this" materail is trash... but who AM I to judge..it appears others enjoy it...go see him live instead!!!!     This is one of the best CD's I've purchased in awhile. Every song has a great groove, the lyrics pull out your insides, and each song is unique from the one before it. Every time I play it in class or just around friends, their first question is "who is this?" I recommend it to anyone. It doesn't matter what kind of music you like, you'll LOVE this disc. It touches everyone.

    I'm disappointed at myself for not being up on this brother vocally. I have been a fan of his songwriting for quite awhile. (Yes, I am one of the dudes that read the liner notes on CDs.) I must say I am blown away by this project. Lyrically and musically it all comes together seamlessly, even the samples. Mr. Chambers has jockeyed for position behind Will Downing as my favorite male vocalist. (Apologies to Donell Jones...) Please stay hungry and maintain the quality of music you are now making.     Looking at the many reviews listed on this website one might think that no album can garner such praise in such a short time. In my opinion this couldn't be farther from the truth. The album has a classic soulful Anita Baker/ Brian Mcnight with a little Chaka Khan groove about it. Unlike many albums of this style produced today which rely on overly suggestive lyrics, the talent of Gordon Chambers is by no mean diluted with such tactics. This album is truly an instant classic and a must have.

    Picked up on this album after reviews in Blues & Soul and downloading the samples from CD Baby. Top drawer material, very well produced, just right for the modern soul connoisseur...ok, there are a couple of numbers that sound too sappy for these ears (Always be Proud, co-written with Matt Goss of Bros fame is simply poo) but on the whole this is excellent stuff, a strident soul voice of great warmth, wicked arrangements and tunes that feel contemporary yet hark back to a more timeless soulful sound...nice one, Gordon!

    This CD is a must have for any fan of soul music. I find it so hard to believe that this album has managed to stay below the radar. A classic from start to finish. When this is in your cd player, the only button you need is play!

    Another one that got away in 2004, having picked it up after I'd put together my year-end chart, and one would have featured near the top of the pile. A dream of a soul album and one that I haven't heard a negative word about from everyone I know who's bought it. Gordon's pedigree could never be brought into question, the guy is a songwriter of the highest order and has worked with some of the biggest and best quality names in the soulful side of the music business - Anita Baker and Will Downing to name but two. This is an another little label album that deserves the might of the majors behind it, giving the guy the rewards such talent on display on this set fully deserves. The album opens with the unashamedly Marvin Gaye-influenced and gut-wrenching groove of Touch You There - I really don't concur with the view that artists today have no originality when they produce music like this; as far as I'm concerned it's today's artists showing appreciation for their roots and influences of days gone by and Touch You There is a perfect example of how good a tune can be when the old and new are put together both intelligently and well - a fantastic start to the album. Another of the album's highlights, the rolling and anthemic Never Fall In Love follows and is wonderful. Slippin' Away samples Spandau Ballet's classic 80s pop tune 'True' to stunning effect - another perfect example of what I was saying about the opening track, using the sampled melody and incorporating it perfectly into the original composition and the result is nothing short of inspired brilliance. Still In Love featuring the vocals of the excellent Sara Devine is my top cut from the album, and the one that the dancefloors of the UK will go for, as was proven when I played the track over the weekend of the recent Jazz FM Hilton Luxury Soul Weekender - the track builds superbly throughout and both Gordon and Sara put in top class vocal performances leading up to the final 60 second crescendo where yet another intelligent nod to the past kicks in (Michael Jackson's 'I Can't Help It') which takes this track to an even higher level. Just brilliant! For my favourite tune on the album it was a toss up between Still In Love and Always Be Proud, a track that's destined to become a standard with it's wonderful melody and its anthemic quality and is a stunning piece of quality contemporary soul music. Also featuring is a brilliant laid back jazzy working of I Apologize which Gordon wrote for Anita Baker. On the remainder of the tracks the man reminds me of Brian McKnight, but that's far from intended as a criticism - the guy undoubtedly should be as big as Mr. McKnight as listening to this great album would indicate he's comparable in talent. All in all a superb album, one that everyone who has an interest in reading this review should buy. There isn't one substandard track on show here, the album has plenty of light and shade and enough variety to keep you interested all the way through, a rarity these days. An unconditional recommendation.

    How is it that I have never heard of this guy before!? This entire CD invites you in and makes you never want to leave. He blends everything, soul and r&b, jazz and blues together into a masterpiece for your senses. Im looking forward to hearing more of his work.

    This is a strong CD. The lyrics are thoughtful. The music is beautifully arranged, and Chambers voice adds icing to the cake. He is a powerful, talented vocalists who knows just what to do with a song. Unfortunately, this CD doesn't have the muscle of a major label behind it, but with the write marketing, publicity and advertising it will won't go unnoticed. It proves that true artistry can be still found in the songwriting. 4 Stars.
