A STAGGERING WORK OF FRIGGIN' GENIUS
author: Todd Telfer - KZYX&Z FMThis is easily the best album released by anyone in 2004. At long last, "The Good Looks" are getting some much-deserved radio airplay. Favorite Tracks include: "Disco Rob" - a modern rock rave-up that makes you wanna get up and dance. Great bass and drums work here. "Watch You" - A kickin' tune perfect for rocking out in the car. That Glakas kid is killer on guitar. "Sounds Like 1969" - References to the Stooges' "1969" aside, this one reminds me a bit more of 1971 - "When the Levee Breaks" specifically. Ron Asheton-like Stooge guitar mixes effortlessly with Led Zep harmonicai. Iggy vocals complete the picture. "Big Now" - Speaking of dates, this one combines '69 with '96, by mixing "Cinnamon Girl"-esque riffs with a rousing Wilco-esque chorus. This is sure to get your feet moving. Don't delay, order the next big thing today - The Good Looks "Let The Needle Drop".

Now with that foreknowledge firmly pressed into your cranium you should know what to expect—great indie rock wedged with superb production noted for its groove. Does it disappoint? Absolutely not. “Please Please” is the kind of funky rocker that would have had Ducky spinning about in the record store hoping to steal some love from Andi. And no that analogy isn’t completely out of line—there is certainly an 80’s (and late ‘70s) vibe going on here with a bit of a nod to such luminaries as The Clash (see “Disco Rob”) and maybe a bit of what Riff Randell would have rocked to in The Ramones-fueled classic “Rock-n-Roll High School” (just listen to the piano rocker “Dear Mr. Charlie”).
