notes

'Fragile Leaf' is a superbly crafted weave of tales and musings...which feature Michaela's warm and delicate vocals and awe inspiring accompaniment...This is a delightful piece of art, a real testament to the magnificent musicianship of this husband and wife duo. Both contribute sweetly played guitars, mandolin and keyboard.
'Fragile Leaf' is the kind of album that grows on you over time, as each layer is unfolded the more time you devote to it. My favourite tracks are the heartfelt harmonious 'High' which has whispers of Kate Bush and folk group Tansads , and the solitary sounding 'Lost '

Victoria Leith UK BAHAI JOURNAL Nov 2006

"One of the strong points of the album is Michaela's singing.....her vocal technique and pitching is so good. This is a fine album".
Sound on Sound Magazine UK

"Combining a vocal quality reminiscent of Julia Fordham, harmonies like the Indigo Girls,& exquisite guitar and mandolin ala Seals and Crofts, this music has a subtle mystical quality all its own."
Justice St. Rain www.special-ideas.com

Geoff & Michaela`s music is primarily acoustic and draws on a variety of influences. Although Michaela`s songs betray an old fashioned emphasis on songwriting craft `Fragile Leaf`also concerns itself with contemporary themes and issues such as materialism and family breakdown, and the importance of truth and friendship .This their 2nd CD release partly documents a year spent travelling in Canada with their family, but also explores spiritual themesfrom the Bahai writings- such as the journey of the soul and people and places from their home land of Penwith in Cornwall,UK.Michaela`s songs have a depth to them that will touch your soul.

  • Beautiful music, peaceful yet inspirational

I heard this CD by accident when some visiting friends from Cornwall were playing it in another room. It really caught my attention with it's magical simplicity. I decided there and then I would have to get a copy of the CD. I run photo-scrapbooking workshops and play it while my customers are working on their albums - it helps them to relax and daydream...and focus on the best in their lives.

FragileLeaf.Wonderful words wrapped in stunning Mandolin magic.

  • Well crafted songs, beautifully performed and musically varied.
    author: John R Longcroft-Neal

Michaela's thoughtful songs are beautifully carried by her lilting voice and careful arrangements of her guitar along with Geoff's mandolin and other varied instruments. See the opening track Dancer for much that is good about this husband and wife team. I love the self indulgent song ending that show the sheer joy of making music that permeates so many tracks. Run River carries a deeper theme and is a lovely atmospheric piece with a simple but effective water sound effect and clear guitar work that is soon complimented by Geoff's mandolin. High show's Rosie's very competant drumming to carry the airy theme alongside the simple but effective electric guitar. Kathryn's Cabin is the sort of story song that Michaela does so well with all the elements of illustrative mandolin and soft percussion palying their part. Overall a really enjoyable album that comes over on so many levels, sometimes deep and spiritual, then narrative but always melodic and entertaining.
