notes
When Sam Glaser began his professional music career, he never expected to focus on Jewish music, let alone embrace the genre with such passion.
Glaser has been on a musical and spiritual journey since recording his first Jewish song to help Soviet émigrés fifteen years ago. With more than a dozen CDs, Glaser tours throughout the world performing in over fifty cities each year, from amphitheaters to synagogues of all denominations, from summer camps in the diaspora to summertime concerts in Israel.
Despite an upbringing in a very musical and Zionist home, his parents wanted him to be more than just a musician. As a result, this Jewish pop singer, who was ranked by Moment Magazine as one of the top-ten Jewish performers, left home seeking to become a Renaissance man. And it’s that very ideology that has driven him to create such diverse music and function not only as composer but also producer, arranger, engineer and keyboardist. While never content to stick with one particular style, Sam Glaser has made his mark as one of the most inspiring voices in Jewish music.
Like George Gershwin, who said he had so much in his head it would have taken him 100 years to write it all down, Sam Glaser is a man whose frequent musical inspiration strikes him during his dreams, when walking home from the synagogue or doing something as simple as putting his children to bed. This complex musician finds his muse when the sparks of the Divine are illuminated in seemingly simple aspects of life.
Glaser believes music has a tremendous power for achieving unity, and if his music touches the neshama (soul) of only one person in an audience of 500 or 5000 people, be it in Los Angeles, Sydney, London or Jerusalem, he believes he has made a profound difference in the world. Ask the thousands of fans worldwide the single word they would use to describe the music of Sam Glaser and you will hear the word “inspired.”
