Singer/songwriter Gileah releases 'The Golden Planes'..."Gileah has been compared with The Innocence Mission and Over the Rhine, but her music is distinctly Southern, down to earth and brimming with sentiment and insight."

notes

Gileah has been gracing stages throughout northwest Florida since she was very young, performing original compositions and accompanying herself on guitar and piano. She has been compared with Innocence Mission and Over the Rhine, but her music is distinctly Southern, down to earth and brimming with sentiment and insight. Mellow and refreshingly simple, her songs draw the listener in with their heartening melodies and wistful vocals.
Gileah’s latest album, The Golden Planes, is the collaboration of four members, of whom Gileah is the singer/songwriter, rhythm guitarist, and pianist. Supporting her in this endeavor is her husband Chris Taylor; in addition to producing The Golden Planes, he accompanies her on guitar and provides background vocals. Kevin Woerner, a former 238 member, lends his talents on bass and percussion, and Ava Quigley sings background vocals.
The Golden Planes was released by the small label Gileah founded in 2005, Grey Hat Records.

  • An Unforgettable and Stirring Voice
    author: Frank Gualtier

Gileah is the best thing I've heard in decades. Her voice alone tops my 'best ever heard in my life' list. If thoughts have equivilent forms that can be described vocally then Gileah sings in forms you want to touch and hold close. As noted by others her voice has a childlike wisp to it. As well it is unmistakably sultry. They say Helen had a face that launched a thousand ships, for how beautiful it was. Gileah has her voice. The music she writes is simple by design, a good folk traight, and geared to the listener with simple stories and ideas. Things relatable. This traight reminds me of Sheryl Crow as both are able to describe things we all understand yet many of us find difficult to put into words. The sound of her songs, however, cannot be compared to anything I know. She takes the idea of folk in and what comes out is Gileah. The majority of the instrumentation is conventional. Guitars, keys, etc. and this serves to further the charm. Especially after the deluge of thundering synths we've all been rattled by for the past two and half decades. I hope to hear more from Gileah, my choice for artist of a lifetime.

  • love to listen

Gileah first plucked my heart-strings at a show in Pennsacola about two years ago. After coming across her name again on the internet, I had one of those impulse purchases; I bought the CD based on that same gut feeling I had at her live show. And to my surprise, two years later I could still hum the melody and pick a few words from the album's opening song. Go Gileah!

Gileahs album is an amazing discovery..the more I hear it, the more I'm inclined to believe it is one of the best albums I've ever heard...She is somewhere between Frente and Mazzy Star, but of course all her own. The songs themselves are each unique and spectacular... "The Golden Planes" "Comfortable" "Be The One" "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" "White Florida Sun" "C'Mon C'Mon" and "For Things Beyond" are the stand-out tracks in my mind...but the whole album is magnificant and just as worthy to be included...pick this album up if you love beautiful voices, gorgeous hooks and melodys, and music that makes you sing and imagine along.

  • She is the music she plays...
    author: Darby Carr

Having known Gileah since her and my teen-age years, I have had the blessing of listening to her music grow from family recordings to performing live and to her two most recent recordings, including this wonderful "The Golden Planes". Her voice is unique...wobbly and sweet, and lends itself well to the music she composes. The music alone is very well crafted and a joy to listen to. Gileah truely is the music she plays, creative and smart with a little whimsy thrown in to keep it playful, but emotionally significant all the while. I cant get enough of "The Golden Planes" and the roll-around-in-you-head of "Be The One"...while the rest of the album is haunting and thoughtful and just as wonderful. This is a beautiful album made even more special by the talent that it springs from, thanx Gileah for the music!!

  • Mysterious, haunting, soothing.
    author: April

This entire album is beautiful. Gileah's voice is smooth and the songs have a dreamlike quality. The last track is my favorite: For Things Beyond. It has the feel of a hymn and a lullabye—a perfect way to end this album.

  • Sticky Sweet
    author: Anouk

Gileah is the whole package. She delivers sickly sticky sweet songs that could melt any heart or slyly drive home any point. Easy to listen to, honest and lyrically smart. An absolute treat.

  • Lovely
    author: Collected Sounds

I was enwrapped by the fourth note. This recording starts out very dreamy, far away sounding…almost tinny. With Gileah's vocals drifting over the notes gently. Heavenly. (read full review by clicking the link above)

  • I think this cd has legs
    author: old timer

if you like modern music but tradition, this record is worth listening to.

  • author: Tamara Turner, CD Baby

From the downbeat of the first track, Gileah casts a spell over her listeners. There is a staggering beauty that immediately runs you over and keeps you frozen in the tender grip of her breathy, childlike voice. In the vein of Tori Amos and Fiona Apple piano and guitar based folky pop, Gileah's music is nothing less than blissfully magical and intensely intimate. There is a quality slightly reminiscent of Bjork as well- a raw innocence, a stripping down to the bone, an unprecedented nakedness that leaves one transfixed and enamored with her delicate, vulnerable and yet unapologetic style. Finally, some non-derivative and highly original, honest female pop.
