Born & raised in San Francisco, George was a hot shot U.S. Forest Service fire fighter, steelworker, construction laborer, Fuller Brush Man, NRA rifle instructor, and fruit picker before graduating from Harvard in English with a Boylston First Prize in Rhetoric and Oratory. He has done gold panning in California, Wyoming & Colorado. An Episo-pal priest, George served congregations in the Kalahari Desert, a California oil town & prison camp, & in the inner city of Kansas City & Jersey City. He played Falstaff at the Chelsea Theater Guild, a non-profit in Manhattan. Jack Baker, head of the Fretted Instruments School of Folk Music in Greenwich Village is his banjo coach. He learned to play the spoons on a ferry crossing the Great Harbor of Mount Desert Island in Maine where he and his wife try to raise bees and pretty near organic vegetables when musical tours permit.

SINGING SONGS his father taught him as a child, George tells the stories behind the songs. His father rode the rails, was a cowboy, trapper, one-room school teacher, public relations man, police reporter, and engine room hand on a tramp steamer in the China Sea. Memories resonate in songs about cowboys, pioneers, colonists, soldiers, & also in sea chanteys, blues, & spirituals. Everybody gets to play the spoons.
