GESHER: The Hebrew word for bridge.
Gesher, the debut CD from award winning, Multi-Platinum selling songwriter Michael Hunter Ochs and vocalist Daniel Leanse is perhaps the most contemporary collection of the Jewish Sabbath prayers ever recorded...
In order to achieve the sound and feel for Gesher that he envisioned, Ochs has recruited some of music's most talented studio artists including keyboardist Matt Rollings (best known for his work with superstars including Lyle Lovett, Dixie Chicks, and James Taylor) and violinist Jonathan Yudkin (practically a legend for his work with Shania Twain and Martina McBride).
Guest appearances from new Columbia Records recording artist, Alana Grace and world re-known Jewish vocalist Joshua M. Nelson provide the album with a wide range of vocal flavors. An appearance by members of the Strong Tower Gospel Choir (from Nashville, TN) on a rather raucous, Gospel-tinged version of "Oseh Shalom" provide just one of many unexpected and beautiful sonic surprises sprinkled throughout this 11-song Jewish worship masterpiece.
Ochs' work has been featured prominently in many of today's most popular television show soundtracks, including Dawson's Creek, Jack & Jill, As The World Turns and The Guiding Light. Most recently DreamWorks licensed his composition "Live" to be the theme song for the national advertisements for the Steven Spielberg film, The Terminal. Ochs has garnered widespread recognition and universal appeal as evidenced by his Multi-Platinum certification by the RIAA as well as his capture of the Nashville Songwriters Association International award for Song Of The Year and The Gospel Music Association Dove Award for Song of the Year for 1998's smash-hit, "On My Knees". Since then, Ochs has built a recording studio on Music Row and his songs have been recorded by major label acts including Jaci Velasquez, Eric Heatherly, Teitur, Nicole C. Mullen, Andrew Dorff, The Wilkinsons, Natalie Grant and Jennifer Marks.

SHALOM FROM...NASHVILLE?! YES!
author: jonacoGreat Jewish music from Nashville? Believe it! This is a wonderful contemporary Shabbat service composed and produced by transplanted New Yorker Michael Ochs, who's music director at a Music City synagogue. I've heard much of this sort of music over the years but this setting is distinctive, with great melodies and playing by some of Nashville's best. Terrific vocals, too, by Daniel Leanse, onetime folk-rocker and Ochs' long-time cantorial soloist. His warm sound is very expressive and welcoming- why the heck didn't my own temple hire this guy? If you love modern Judaic-pop music in the Debbie Friedman/SAFAM style (BTW, SAFAM's Robbie Solomon was my former cantor), Leanse, Ochs and their GESHER service will warm your heart.
Spiritual Wonderland
author: CynthiaYou simply have to hear this entire CD to fully appreciate it...what a complete work of art. Shabbat has NEVER sounded this musical, magical and modern!! Two huge thumbs up!!! I'll be spreading the word. Gesher rocks!
A gorgeous CD...
author: JohnathanI was blown away. Never heard Jewish music that can stand up musically to anything on the radio. The production is first class. The prayers have never been interpreted in such a contemporary way, yet, it is still from the heart and feels traditional, in the modern sense of the word.
Intense musical experience
author: Andrea FrankelThe prayers are sung with an intensity seldom experienced in recordings like this. And it's nice to have a male voice to balance all the female voices in my Judaica collection.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
author: JustineA friend turned me onto this CD and I haven’t stopped listening since. The music is pure genius – beautiful, sensual, spiritual and inspiring. I can’t get the melodies out of my head – I’ve never heard anything like it.
