notes

"Beautiful, emotionally potent lyricism."-Rosanne Cash

Growing up the youngest of six children on Long Island's South Shore in the Sixties and Seventies, Gerry McKeveny was exposed to a dizzyiing variety of music-from the hits of the day emanating from the Philco above the kitchen sink to the Byrds and Grateful Dead coming from his older brothers' room; from Led Zepellin, James Taylor and Tim Buckley spinning on his sister's turntable to the Yes, John Fahey, Van Morrison and Jackson Browne LPs that would further shape his sensibilities.

In the early Nineties Gerry formed the Fugitives with partner Joe Caggiano. They would go to the semi-finals of WBAB's prestigious Homegrown Competition on the strength of a four-song demo-and remain as active now as ever. In 1996 Gerry and Joe released High Road, garnering local airplay. In 2002, Gerry released Healing Season, an all-instrumental acoustic guitar CD which attracted the attention of guitarist-author-producer Artie Traum and Grammy-winner Rosanne Cash.

Gerry lives in Blue Point, New York with his family. He continues to write, sing and play with no plans on stopping anytime soon.

I would recommend this CD for any collection. Beautiful, flowing, happy, sad. These instrumentals really tell stories - reaching my heart with a range of emotions. "In Christ There Is No East or West" is very well done. Pure finger-pickin' joy.

  • I have a love for acoustic guitar - this album is well named.

My wife died of cancer about six months ago. I decided, since music is able to bypass my walls and reach the heart of things, that I needed some albums. This was one where the preview cut past and allowed me to feel some of the grief I had postponed. Add to that, the performance is just plain good, and it becomes more than just a therapeutic thing. It's something I can listen to when I want peaceful yet active energy, like a good cup of sonic coffee without the bitter aftertaste.
