notes
Les Gendarmes du Swing is a unique string jazz ensemble specializing in gypsy swing. Although clearly inspired by virtuoso musicians Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and the Quintette of the Hot Club of France, Les Gendarmes du Swing draws inspiration from a broad range of influences. These influences include other swing musicians such as Oscar Aleman, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington, classic jazz musicians, traditional gypsy music, traditional Brazillian choro music, and even more unexpected sources like classic rock and punk rock. The band’s repertoire reflects these influences by incorporating creative interpretations of classic Django tunes, classic swing tunes, traditional music from across the globe, and original music. Such broad influences as well as the band’s inventive (and sometimes irreverent) spirit combine to make Les Gendarmes du Swing an exciting, high-energy live music experience.
This is the first full length studio recording by Les Gendarmes du Swing. The mostly live-in-the-studio recording captures the energy of the band's live shows. It features 3 tunes written by Les Gendarmes and a host of classic swing and jazz tunes. For this recording Les Gendarmes du Swing were Nick Coventry on violin, Rami Gabriel on lead guitar, Gary Williams on mandolin, and Stephen Emanuel on upright bass with Mike Glick and Pat Ciliberto splitting rhythm guitar duties. There are also very special guest appearnces by Colter Frazier on tenor saxophone and Michael Gutin on accordion.

Smile Music
author: alisan petersHeard the background music at Santa Barbara Film Festival and began the quest to find out how to get some information on this group. Thanks to a few emails, I now enjoy Les Gendarmes for all their songs, not just the film snippets. Terrific musicianship with a dash of whimsy; just my cup of tea! Thanks, CD Baby and Les Gendarmes. Keep on swingin'!
Great music!
author: John AndersonI really enjoyed this album -- music is clear and crisp and very well played. If you enjoy music from Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli, or David Grisman I would highly recommend this. I look forward to hear more foot tapping music from this artist.
EXCEPTIONAL!!
author: John SposatoA beautiful CD of outstanding music - not a bad cut in the collection. The mandolin is exquisite, the guitar grabbing - I could go on forever. A must have for anyone who appreciates incredible musicianship. THANKS - PLEASE put out another CD SOON!!!!
