Gemini Dream . . . the name conjures up thoughts of magic and mysticism. And while these topics are touched upon throughout the songs, Gemini Dream’s music is an aural journey through themes of birth, death, and the moments in between.
Created through the efforts of songwriter Mike Cavanagh, Gemini Dream is something unusual these days: a “studio band”. This allowed the group to go further than they might have gone otherwise, and as you will hear, the end result is much more than the sum of its parts.
The album was recorded in a unique way by using a portable digital studio up on Grouse Mountain, overlooking Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Mike, along with co-producer Brian Jones (Zen Archer), set out to capture performances that reflected the unique environment they were in, and they succeeded. Brian lent his considerable talents as engineer and multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, bass and keyboards, while Mike contributed additional guitars. Mike has spent much of his time writing songs and doing studio work. One of his songs “ Till Tomorrow” was placed on a soundtrack to the movie “ Matinee”.
Sean Garrett (Zen Archer) is an old school vocalist, having trained under the tutelage of renowned vocal instructor David Kyle, Sean is adept at singing melodic rock as well as powerful ballads. The voice you hear comes from his soul and the results are something very special. Sean also played guitar and keyboards on the album.
Tom Keenlyside added his signature saxophone to the album. Tom, a founding member of the band “Skywalk”, is considered one of the top sax players in Vancouver, as well as Canada. Tom has played on many multi-platinum albums from such diverse artists as Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, INXS, and Yes. We are more than pleased to have him be a part of this project.
George Leger III, a long-time fixture on the Vancouver recording scene, laid down the drums at his relocated Utopia Parkway Music in Los Angeles, California. He also used his talents as mix engineer, and his skills as a Juno Award winning mastering engineer. George has had the pleasure of either working with, or being a consultant to, many great artists, including Matthew Good Band, Nickelback, Geddy Lee, Sheila E., and Jon Anderson of Yes.
Last but not least, Mick Mahan joined George at Utopia Parkway to record some of his famous big bottom 6 string bass on a few of the tracks. Mick is a long-time bass player and music director for Pat Benatar, and he has either worked or done sessions with Sophie B. Hawkins, The Fifth DImension, Spencer Davis, and Alan Parsons.
This album is the result of a lifelong dream, and we are very proud of it. We feel that it is something special, and hope that you will agree. So close your eyes, turn it up, and join us on the journey that is Gemini Dream.
