notes

Gayle Cloud is an award-winning singer/songwriter based in Seattle. Her work is an exotic, eclectic mix of "new world" music that simmers with world, euro, jazz and pop influences. Her lush melodies, sensual rhythms and rich vocals create a fresh sound with a global appeal.

Gayle debuted as a performing artist in Paris where she attracted a devoted audience over the five years she lived in Europe. She then moved to New York for several years where she played with some of city’s finest musicians and produced a CD of original work. She recently returned to her hometown of Seattle.

"While Gayle now writes and performs her own original work, she started out on the petite stage of the Paris Aller/Retour as a jazz singer. She was asked to perform the club’s final show when it was forced to give up its lease to a higher rent cigar shop. Needing a place for her and her band to play, she invited groups of friends and growing fans to climb the 96 steps to her loft apartment in the Marais district for a number of intimate “salon” shows. One day as she was walking around her quartier, she spied a new Senegalese club still under construction. “I fell in love with Jokko’s ambience and even though I was not the genre of performer they were looking for, I talked the booker into giving me a regular gig,” says Gayle. “ I later discovered that the club was co-owned by the celebrated Senegalese musician Youssou N’Dour when he attended one of my shows. This was a magical time for me and I became fascinated with world music. I then began to incorporate world and euro rhythms and influences into my own work.”

“Second Chance,” Gayle’s debut record of original work was produced and arranged by New York musician John Pahmer. The CD, which is now getting radio airplay on a wide range of stations worldwide, was honored with the No. 1 Music Review Award in WomensRadio singer/songwriter category. Her songs "Courage to Love" and "Talaky" have both won numerous GarageBand awards. “Talaky" also received an honorable mention from the London-based "We are Listening" global songwriting contest.

Gayle recently joined the talent team of Audiosocket, a music-licensing agency that connects independent artists and talent buyers for placement in film, television and new media.

Always introducing new and compelling work at her live shows, Gayle is a prolific songwriter. She is completing a new body of original work and plans to produce another album in the near future.

A musician since age nine, Gayle has played a myriad of instruments throughout her life, including the piano, guitar, flute and percussion. The keyboard is now her instrument of choice when composing and performing select songs. Gayle has also studied and performed various forms of jazz and African dance.

Born in Chicago, Gayle spent most of her adult life in Seattle before moving to Europe.

  • Keeps Getting Better and Better

I heard earlier versions of several of these songs live in Paris and am very impressed with the additional depth and sophistication that Gayle's music has taken on. Gayle's music makes you want to move and sing along. And her words will speak to most people's experiences.

  • She's a real deal and you hear her passions compliment the lyrics.

Gayle is a real darkhorse and will shortly awaken someone who can recognize her talent and take it to the stars beyond those on this page

Gayle's velvety voice, heartfelt lyrics and original music are a new start to my day each morning now. She has such a fresh, optimistic presentation, and her sunny, enthusiastic can-do personality shines through in her lytics and sound.

Listening to Gayle's music keeps the spirit strong. This music is an anthem for all visionaries, and a guidebook for artists, dreamers and believers. Her voice is a balm for the quizical mind. The music surrounding her words is a feast for the ears with rythms to accelerate a weary heart. If you don't get it yet, you soon will. Gayle is certifiably original.

I agree with Sarah who wrote that "Caffeine High" should be picked up by Starbucks! Or, any major coffee maker who wants to add a splash of musical flash to their product! Very fun song! This CD is just such a cohesive work with a pathway of sounds and lyrics that take turns and bends easily, without jarring the traveler. At times I floated, at times I danced, at times I was entranced. It is a romantic and thought-filled ride!

  • dream scape

" her CD creates a sound scape and it evokes dreams and romance and promises. "

  • Wonderful, Lush music. Can't stop playing it.

Second Chance is one of the most beautiful body of work I have heard from a singer/songwriter in a long time. I have been grooving to the CD all day long. Believe in Me sounds like something Disney would love. I think Caffeine High is a must for Starbucks. This is a winner CD. Can't wait to share with family and friends

  • Wonderful, listenable album. Intellectually and emotionally honest. A musical oa
    author: Ron

In an age where lyrics are often sacrificed for style or left in the background, this CD is a lyrical oasis. In age where "awesome" has replaced "wonderful" and where noise passes for "edgy," this album sets you in an oasis of sound that can be described no other way than wonderful. It's not smooth jazz, thank God, and it is not new age, thank God. It is a great blend of genres that struck me like a sweet and sour delicacy -- it hits all the taste buds. Although my favorite track is Talaky, all the tracks contribute something special and different and I was never bored. I guarantee Gayle's music will embed itself in your brain and body…. and that is a good thing!
