Unlike many manufactured, pre-fab music acts today, Gavin Creel is a multi-faceted performer who is forging a unique path and steadily carving out his own place in the entertainment industry.

Creel was raised in a small city in Ohio and spent his childhood studying classical music, while obsessively listening to Top 40 radio. He developed a bizarre roster of childhood musical heroes that included Billy Joel, George Michael, and Harry Connick Jr. After graduating from high school, he took his passion for music and performing to the University of Michigan where he majored in musical theatre. During his collegiate years, with sights set firmly on the New York stage, Creel started writing and creating his own sound that combined his love for pop music with the emotional energy of the theatre.

Once he hit New York City, Creel broke out with a Best Actor Tony nomination for his Broadway debut in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. Since then, he has solidified his reputation as one of the business’ top young performers, starring in such productions as the Off-Broadway cult hit, BAT BOY, the world premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s BOUNCE, and most recently, the Tony Award winning revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. In tandem with his success as an actor, Creel has thrilled sold-out crowds with his original pop music at venues all across New York, such as Irving Plaza, Joe’s Pub, and Arlene’s Grocery.

    Having recently discovered Gavin Creel in the recent stage production of Mary Poppins in London, now about to tour the UK but sadly without Gavin, I was mesmerised by his wonderful voice and performance. I needed to hear more from this man! Unfortunately someone bought the last copy of Goodtimenation in the theatre foyer but as luck would have it I was able to purchase a copy from CDbaby. This CD is a great showcase for Gavin's smooth and unctuous voice, ranging from lively dance numbers, to the hauntingly sung ballad, These Four Walls. If you need to do a good deed for the day, go buy this album and spread the word. Good on you Gavin & Robbie, can't wait 'til the next one...and come back to the UK soon!

    Magnificent. Why isn't this CD out there? It should be everywhere. People would love it if it was promoted heavier. I couldn't find it on some of the big music and book websites. I am playing it over and over and it gets better and better....

    Buying this disc on a whim, (I'd only heard Gavin on the Actor's Fund HAIR CD... what a voice!) I was very impressed with his pop sound. This disc is not only sexy (very much so) but also quite sweet. Gavin's talent is truly on display here. One can't help but feel an intimate connection at every listen. If you haven't already, BUY THIS ONE NOW! And Gavin, keep 'em coming. I'm a big fan from Minnesota.

    i popped in this cd when i got it and right off the bat the first song got me, then as i kept listening to the rest i got more and more into it. While the lyrics are a little corny for my usual taste they are a good kind of corny that had me laughing and grooving. And love the 80s sound. It'd make a good party soundtrack, its easy and enjoyable.

    Given his theatre background this cd is even more surprising. A great party disk with fun dance-pop songs and sweet gentle ballads all written by Mr. Creel and/or his partner. The songs are pop flavored but smart, humorous and sexy and work extremely well with Creel's expressive voice.

    Four years ago, I told Gavin I "melted" at the beauty of his voice on Christmas Eve. I first heard it when he was 8 years down in the choir room. He has used his gift marvelously on this album.     I'd have bought this disc based only on his previous work, but to find out it's as great as it is is a fantastic surprise. It's incredibly satisfying and I think for the most part the lyrics are as strong as the amazing tunes and harmonies. Love it!

    This is a great, exuberant album. In terms of influences, there's definitely some 80s British electronica in there, both in terms of sound and sensibility. "Art of Heartbreak" is perfect straight-up pop worthy of Yaz or Erasure. Still, I think many of the highlights are the more intimate tracks like "These Four Walls" and "Molly's Song." One of the best things about Gavin Creel onstage is his amazing crystal-clear voice, and he sounds fantastic here. I think it's absolutely perfect that when Stephen Sondheim gives him a song, it's called "Talent." I can't wait to hear more.

    of course, gavin's voice is remarkable. we all agree, he's incredibly gifted. and i bought the cd because i've seen him perform in many things. however, i'm not usually a fan of "pop music," so i wasn't expecting to really like the style of the album. BUT! it's not as "pop music" as i thought it might be. the melodies aren't as trendy (which is good!) and there are some interesting musical choices here and there that i really enjoy. you don't often get "interesting" from a pop album. so cheers on changing my mind! i'm glad! however, i'm going to have to agree with another reviewer's comments about the lyrics. now, i'm a big fan of sexual innuendo in music, (a la dave matthews, etc.) but i found some of gavin's lyrics to be a little too blatant. or contrived. instead of being subtly sexy, pushing the envelope, it was a little too in your face. a tad cheesy or melodramatic at times? it just seemed... teenage. a little. the syntax could've been more creative and well planned. now, some of the lyrics were breathtakingly beautiful. which is what i'd expect from someone as thoughtful as gavin. but the sophomoric quality of some of the lyrics made it seem like they were only there for shock value. or to appeal to a larger, if less complex and discerning audience. so it seems it will appeal to lots of people. which i suppose is the goal, now, isn't it? :) great first album, g. keep them coming. keep us guessing.

    Okay... not really the style of tunes that I generally go for, but I stumbled across Gavin's music purely by accident and felt compelled to get this CD. Very glad that I did. Fun songs... catchy melodies... It's been going non-stop since I bought it... Count me in as a new fan.

    I'm completely biased, as Gavin is a friend, but he has converted me into a screaming fan boy... His voice is silk and he and Robbie's work on this CD is nothing short of brilliant. I want so badly for him to be a huge star and with these songs, I don't see how that won't happen.

    I absolutely LOVED this CD! I am huge fan of Mr. Creel since he played the lead character in HONK! It was wonderful to hear this departure from Musical Theater with his pop score and suggestive lyrics! You can't help but enjoy this CD!     We all knew gavin was an amazing (AMAZING) singer, but the lyrics, especially in "these four walls," are the most honest, beautiful, heartfelt lyrics I've ever heard. The slow songs - Behind Me Day, Molly's Song, and These Four Walls most definitely work the best with gavin's voice and have the most impact on the listener. Stick to the acoustics and you'll be home free!

    This is a great CD from start to finish - terrific production values, intriguing, funny and sometimes sexy lyrics, melodies that plant themselves in your subconscience, and oh yeah - that amazing voice..swooping, crooning, coaxing, enticing, and altogether right!     I have been a big fan of Gavin's since I first heard him in Fame back in 1999. All of the songs were very catchy and they showcased his voice very well, however, I was not a big fan of some of the lyrics. It's not that they offended me, but they seemed a bit silly at times. Overall, Gav sounds AMAZING and his talent is showcased very well

    Alright...I knew this guys voice in music theatre and loved it, but now he's proven himself as a pop singer as well.     WOW! I had been anticipating the release of this CD ever since I heard mention of it at the Prom King concert last year. Let's just say, it far exceeded my expectations, which were through the roof to begin with! Fabulous feel-good songs that you can drive, dance, sing, basically do anything too. Heartfelt ballad-types even out the score. The up-tempo numbers are stand-out, although Gavin's voice is perfect in everything! By far the best CD I have spent my money on in years. EVERYBODY BUY THIS NOW. No joke.

    I wish I had a convertible, because this CD makes me want to get out in the sun and drive around with the top down! The songs are so catchy and fun. Gavin has the most pleasant voice I have ever heard. This CD most definitely puts you in a great mood. My favorite song at the moment is Rocket Ride. I am sure I will have a new favorite after I play this CD to death. I might have to buy a back-up copy for when I wear this one out!

    Dancy, heartfelt and to see him perform live adds that extra touch. Unbelievable voice and very good looking, this is by far one of the best albums I have heard. When I'm down i put it on to cheer myself up. When I am in the mood for a song of hope I put on Mollys song which is awsome. Thanks for a great Album
