Jazz Fusion

notes

"Just when you thought the electric bass was quietly sinking into a nostalgic role in jazz, here comes Gary Willis to remind you of its power. It may be that Willis is too unassuming a character to get the credit he deserves, as perhaps the mose exciting electric bassist around."

  • Very good but not tiresome, relaxed but not predictable, five stars!

Solo-cd's from master instrumentalists are not always very interesting, musically speaking; this one, however, surely is! We hear plenty of awful chops from Willis and Chambers plus interesting contributions on keyboard and reeds. The music is scarcely predictable from moment to moment. Yet this cd is quite relaxed and not tiresome in the least. Very much recommended to all lovers of really good fusion.

  • First journey into jazz.

This is the 1st jazz I have ever bought. I listened to the sampler and really liked it. So now, I play it on the drive home. It seems different every time..sort of unpredictable even though I have heard it before.... I think that I am getting to like jazz. This cd really gets me grooving. Gonna buy some more Gary Willis stuff.

  • Superb bass playing. An original voice!

Mr.Willis demonstrates groove, chops and horn like soloing with a killer rhythm section. Listen and learn!

  • A great CD by one of the greatest bassists/composers!
    author: Dem Bones

This is a great CD by Tribal-Tech co-founder, Gary Willis. Gary is perhaps one of the finest bass players in the world today. His bass grooves are in the same league as James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, Jaco Pastorius, Roco, Verdine White, etc., but Gary has his own unique sound, and style that sets him apart from the rest. Gary is also a great composer as well which is not too common with many great players. I would suggest listening to 'Armegeddon Blues' first, as this tune should have been the first track on the CD. 'Armegeddon Blues' grabs the listener in right from the beginning with it's infectious grooves, and sax lines. Buy anything from this Fusion monster, and you wont be disappointed. Gary is a master at his craft!.......Mind Boggling!
