notes
Garrett Easley realized at early age music was going to be a huge part of his life. Since the age of 13, Garrett was banging on buckets upstairs in a loft of a small farm house in Canyon Texas. Wash buckets and hardware made of wood was his first drum set. After months of banging holes through buckets, Garrett received his first "real" set of drums. A set of Ludwig Rocker II's arrived on his 15th birthday. The future from that day forward would be forever changing.
Early on in his career as a musician, many people influenced him. Throughout middle school and high school, Garrett was involved with band in every aspect. This is where the rudimentary skills were established. He was an active participant in concert groups, marching band, jazz band, percussion ensembles and joined the drum and bugle corps during the summer. At first it was the likes of the 80's hair bands that were popular and at the time seemed to be the way into the music world. The big stage shows and lights was a major dream. He bounced from garage band to garage band throughout his high school years, while at the same time honing his skills in many different styles.
In November of 1993, he joined the United States Air Force. Panama City Beach, Florida was Garrett's new home. Here he performed with a band called, "Toast" that had backed Chuck Berry. Growing older as a musician also made him realize that there were many areas of music that he had not even began to touch. Jazz and Big Band became a major influence in Garrett's playing. Listening to greats like Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, and various other legends, Garrett started to really learn what music was about.
He started to listen to every type of music there was. October of 1998 he moved to Jacksonville Florida. Here Garrett continued to listen to jazz and other big band music trying to take in as much as possible. Soon he found himself involved in a 3-piece blues band, "Angie Kay & F5". Since jazz and big band was the style he had been studying, blues became not only easy, but also very fun to play. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Albert King, was the strong points of the trio. Major venues were played throughout the summer of 2001. Being very motivated and always on the edge, Garrett decided to go his separate way and regroup at a later date. The Southern Storm Band was formed in early November of 2001. A combination of Country/Southern Rock and Blues produced a unique sound. Garrett managed and promoted Southern Storm which led to some big benefit concerts for the American Cancer Society. Southern Storm self produced one album.
Since his early years of playing, Garrett has accomplished many things. The diverse number of styles has made him valuable in many situations. Recently he has had the opportunity to play with several very successful Artists within the Blues Circuit. October 19th, 2002 was the 25th anniversary of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash. A huge concert was put on to remember the lives lost and celebrate the lasting music they left behind. Bands from all over the United States were booked for this show. Being well accomplished in his playing, Garrett was able to fulfill a need. Renowned blues guitarist, Tom Hubbard, contacted Garrett to assist him at the concert. His high energy playing lights crowds up all over the world. Tom Hubbard has had albums within the top 10 on the charts. Universal Slim based out of Chicago, Illinois was another great blues artist that also contacted Garrett for his services. He was able to assist these great artists without any reservation or prior rehearsal.
Currently Garrett Easley works out of several studios in the Atlanta, Georgia area assisting in demo sessions along with full album's. Styles include Country, Blues, Pop, Rock, Jazz and a number of others. He has also put together a Blues Instrumental album that features several of Georgia's great Artists. This project shows the vast musical realms and styles that he has produced.

Can "On The Loose" Hold On For The Ride? Garret Easley, who previously shared the stage with Toast (the backing band for Chuck Berry) flys solo on this Blue Sunday effort, recruiting some of Georgia's top blues musicians (Just to name a few): Jody Worrel and Pete Johnson (Guitars), Tom Hubbard (Slide Dorbo), Tom Vickery (Bass), Bobby Mobley and Ed Barner (Keyboards), and Robert Allen (Blues Harp). Notice in the list of musicians, no drummers or percussionists were listed. That would be because Easley IS the drummer and percussionist (something I didn't expect to read in the liner notes -- why? because most blues CD's that are passed my way are that of a guitarist or singer. So, right off the bat, Garret had my attention. Now can he keep it? My first impression of Garrett Easley's "On The Loose" was that it was an instrumental disc you wish you could sing along to! That may not make sense to most, but think about this: it's all in the melody. This is the first instrumental disc that has passed my desk that really screams "music and melody." Each song is so well crafted that I have caught myself on several occasions humming along to words that are not existant! It's an amazing feat and something that I have to say was pulled off with (trying to not receive a 'rim-shot' inducing pun) ease! Some of the CD's highlights include: "Just Another Sandwhich" which is a blues-tinged rocker with a touch of Southern Rock, "Sixth Portion," a slower blues gem, is backed by a stylish Blues Harp lead (performed by Robert Allen). The songs best effort, is the jazzy "This-n-that," where a night of cold beers, old friends, and staying way post closing time, can be summed up in 3:53. Overall a CD that's perfect to "sit back, relax, and enjoy the melodies!" -- Brian Cohen ("Are You Blues" Founder)
