notes

The Gamble Brothers Band formed in January of 2001. The band was nominated in 2002 for the "Best Band in Memphis" award by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Memphis chapter.

Each member comes from an exciting background of playing. This includes sharing the stage with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Rufus Thomas, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Eric Gales, and sitting in with cats like Aquarium Rescue Unit, etc. The band is Al Gamble (Organ/Piano/Lead Vocals), Chad Gamble (Drums/Vocals), Art Edmaiston (Saxophone/Vocals), and William Lowrimore (Bass/Vocals).

Al Gamble - Organ, Piano, Clavinet, Lead Vocals
Born in 1969, Al started playing organ and harmonica at an early age. He got hooked on the Hammond B-3 sound listening to his father's Jimmy Smith albums as a kid. By the time he was in high school he was playing with veteran musicians in the Muscle Shoals music scene. Al continued to play in bands throughout his college years at the University of Alabama. Since then, Al has played Hammond B-3 organ and piano with several bands including the Preston Shannon Band, The Bluebirds, the junkyardmen, the Coolers, and more. Originally from Tuscumbia, Alabama, Al has lived and played in Memphis for the past eight years. He has backed up artists such as Chris Cain, Johnnie Bassett, the Barkays, Irma Thomas, Bo Diddley, Syl Johnson, Eric Gales, Rufus Thomas and the Memphis Horns. Al's studio work includes: Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Ledbetter Heights;" compilation CDs titled "Blues Power: The Songs of Eric Clapton" (House of Blues label) and "Whole Lotta Blues: The Songs of Led Zepplin," (House of Blues label); Jimmy Thackery's "Switchin' Gears;" The Bluebirds' "South From Memphis;" the junkyardmen's "Scrapheapful Of Blues" and "Keep on Working," and others. For the past four years, he has been nominated as "Premier Keyboard Player" by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Memphis Chapter. Al has an endorsement from Hammond Suzuki USA Inc.

Art Edmaiston - Tenor, Soprano Saxophones/Vocals/Percussion
Born in 1972, Art Edmiaston has been performing on the saxophone since 1992. He began playing in R&B and show groups and quickly entered the Memphis "jam band" scene basically as it happened with FreeWorld in 1993. He began co-writing songs and traveling throughout the Southeast, culminating in the recording of "You are Here" in 1995. He later formed the Sideman Syndicate with Memphis' singer/songwriter/keyboardist Parker Card and made one record. Art went on to travel the United States and Japan with Blues Legend Bobby "Blue" Bland. Returning to Memphis, Art joined the Preston Shannon Band and Mason Ruffner touring Europe and Canada. In addition to performing R&B, Art is also very active in the jazz scene of the Greater Memphis area. He has recorded and performed with Jonny Lang, Levon Helm, the Freddy Jones Band, and the Gales Brothers. He has jammed on stage with the Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jon Fishman of Phish, and several local acts. Art has repeated Premier Player nominations from the NARAS Memphis Chapter.

Chad Gamble - Drums/Vocals
Born in 1974, Chad got his first drum kit at the age of 4. After graduating from the University of Alabama, he lived in Shreveport for a brief stint with the Bluebirds, before settling in Memphis in 1997. He has played drums with several bands including the A Train, Mickey Honeycutt, Reba Russell, Blind Mississippi Morris, Candy Martin Shines, Mason Ruffner, Little Whit Wells, and more. He has backed such artists as Rufus Thomas, the Memphis Horns, Eddie Floyd, Chris Cain, Johnnie Bassett, Preston Shannon and Jimmy Thackery. Chad has recorded with local Memphis vocalist Reba Russell and Shreveport's guitar legend Buddy Flett, as well as others.

William Lowrimore - Fretless and Fretted Basses/Vocals
William Lowrimore was born in 1977 in Memphis, Tenn., and raised in the fertile land of North Mississippi. After high school William began making musical ventures into the big city of Memphis. After a few years of road gigging with anything from disco to folk groups he finally landed a big gig. This gig was with guitar legend Eric Gales. For eight months they toured the country opening for and sitting in with such greats as the Doobie Brothers, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles, the Styx, Lynard Skynard, 311, the Black Crowes, and many more. He also found himself backing up Stevie Wonder at Chicago's House of Blues and hanging out with superstar Steven Segal. Now, back in Memphis William has become a part of the Gamble Brothers Band. Ask him how he feels about that and he will tell you that he's never been in a better situation in his musical career. This being the funky-soul sounds of which he was brought up to play. William Lowrimore is a proud endorsee of Warrior Basses.

  • Very Cool, Gerat Grooves....

Very tight rythem section with outstanding keys player. The sax playing is also top of the line but sounds lonley on the hooks....could use another horn...trumpet maby.

  • Progressive Funk - Great arrangements, excellent musicianship-these guys are fun

I really have enjoyed the cd immensely. It has a little bit of everything: upbeat, downbeat, funky, more funky, etc., eclectic without confusion, ambitious and experimental without losing focus. Will definetely get the 2nd cd!

Bring em Back and Numbers Never Lie are two of my favorite songs from this album. We have played 10 lbs of HUM at several parties and it has always been quite a hit. We are looking forward to the next album. These guys have a great sound.

  • Funky and Fantastic
    author: Tru Livaudais

This album is fantastic. Next time you're hosting a get-together, put the album in and after the first 30 seconds of "Blue Beat Years," someone will ask you, "Who is that on the stereo?" Al Gamble's distinct vocal delivery shines in songs like "What's Wrong Now," and the cover "City in the Sky," while all of the instrumentation is comprised of top notch jams. As a die-hard New Orleans music fan, I would highly recommend this album to anyone who's looking for a unique sound and a CD that completely breaks the mold. Eagerly awaiting the next album.

  • IT DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Buy THIS CD. These guys got the goods.......
    author: George Archer

My favorite mix for a blues/jazz group has always been a B3, Sax, Guitar as lead instrumemts, great vocals, ALL mixed together with the love of the music and ORIGINALITY. You ain't "gamblin" with the Gamble Brothers, they are a sure bet. Thr feel varies from slow/soul to rockin/blues and they don't just do the old 3 chord runs. I have a feeling a live CD set from these guys would be too hot to handle, but I can't wait till the next one, studio OR LIVE!

  • Ten Pounds of Hum really hits the Spot!
    author: Todd Gerelds

These guys really jam. Start to finish, this cd really hits the spot. Soulful vocals and tight harmonies as well as impressive musical savvy and talent from an instrumental standpoint set these guys and this cd apart. This ain't your ordinary NEW BAND with their FIRST cd. Ten Pounds of Hum will definitely satisfy your blues hunger!
