notes

...this E.P is a collage of recordings i've done through out the year. some on my four-track, and others through the studio. One paper in San Francisco calls it "meloncholly and western tinged folk songs'...i guess i just call them songs. Jeb Bows helps me out on fiddle, and i did the other slide, banjo and guitar tracks. I hope you like it...oh, and theres another record i've been working on with my band, the freight. it should be out in the spring...

Gregory Alan Isakov has been described by Boulder Weekly, "Strong, subtle, a lyrical genious" and has been compared to his influences, Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Joe Phelps, Iron & Wine and Gillian Welch. Gregory's humble presence and his overwhelming voice and guitar style have been treasured by an ever-growing and captivated fan base. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and raised in Philadelphia, Isakov moved to Colorado at the end of the last decade. He has made a rising impact on the music scene and has been recently awarded Denver Westword's Best Singer/Songwriter 2007, and 2007 winner of Telluride Troubador Competition.
Gregory Alan Isakov has shared the stage with numerous touring artists such as Ani Difranco, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Alexi Murdoch, and Fiona Apple. Isakov has performed throughout the United States; and has appeared at music festivals such as South by Southwest, Falcon Ridge Folk Fest, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest, and Telluride Bluegrass Festival. He has toured solo and with his band "The Freight", and has just released his first full length album, "That Sea, The Gambler"in may 2007. "Rust Colored Stones(2003)" and "Songs for October(2005)" are available at www.cdbaby.com.

Gregory Alan Isakov has the ability to transport ones soul by way of music to a place of beauty and tranquility. I strongly recommend this along side his other recordings. Bravo!

A musician friend from Boulder recommended I check out Gregory Alan Isakov.....A singer songwriter who is soulful and without ego....I couldn't agree more. Beautiful.....I am happy to introduce his music to the Chicago area.

Songs For October is fantastic. I heard of GAI only by a chance show that I saw at the Boulder Theater, and his stage presence is amazing. Kept the audience totally quiet and in their seats, something not many acts can do these days. Amazing vocals, amazing tunes, amazing lyrics. My favorite is probably "Black & Blue". Keep it coming!

  • where the hell has this guy been hiding?

I got this album when i saw gregory open up for Fiona Apple in Boulder, Colorado. I was totally floored. I came to see if he had a new record out. Songs for October only made me hungry for more. This is a great collection of songs. A must have album!

  • Haunting folk music
    author: Gray

Beautiful music. Gregory knows how to pull those heartstrings. I'm only giving this four stars because there aren't enough songs ;) This has opened my eyes to folk music, so it must be good!

there is not a single moment on this cd that is missing the soul of gregory alan isakov. the cd has been in my stereo since i got it and is played daily. the lyrics are so REAL and beautiful that you can't help but to be moved. i am beyond impressed with gregory, as a songwriter myself, and look forward to listening to more recordings.

  • This guy has got it!

I got this album, when i caught gregory playing in Seattle, on his last tour. This record has become my daily soundtrack ever since. I cant wait to hear his new stuff and to see what becomes of this amazing songwriter.

  • this is gooooood...!

  • A Great One
    author: David B.

I've been waiting for this cd since I first listened to "Rust Colored Stones" almost two years ago. This is a great follow-up EP to an unbelievable debut cd. I found "Shining Offa You", "Crooked Muse", and "August Clown" outstanding work reminiscent of the first cd...but the plaintive violin and vocals on "Black and Blue" will stop you in your tracks. The vocals and guitar work are excellent but the exceptional songwriting makes it easy to understand that we will be hearing from Gregory Alan Isakov for a long time to come.
