notes
"...so i recorded this in a tiny room outside of Boulder, Colorado. i worked on it for about 6 months, from january on, so its kind of a winter album...i tried to keep it as honest as i could. i dont really know what else to say about it...i recorded mostly on a thursday morning."

"Rust Colored Stones" is the kind of record that calls to mind a snowbound cabin in the Colorado Rockies the way Chris Whitley's "Living With The Law" conjures up the Big Sky of Montana. It's the kind of record that sounds like it was made in isolation, maybe some February spent in the high country with only a guitar and harmonica for company.
Succinct, well-crafted, independent release by an amazing songwriter.
author: Max DaviesThis record is it! Unfettered by the sterile, manipulations of a company in search of a profit. Rust colored stones is a true document of Gregory doing what it is that he does best, which is playing and writing great songs. The album speaks for itself, I don't even need to champion it any further, it is that spectacular. If you have not yet listened to it, do yourself a favor and do so. One of the most honest independent releases I have ever heard. This is the real thing; this musician's character comes straight out of the speakers.
Pick up a few copies, you'll want to share.
author: JenBeautiful and real and earthy, melancholic and hopeful. Ooh, I love it.
Buy it, or die.
author: Amanda RomeroI listened to the 30 second sample of the first song, and knew without a doubt that I needed to have not only the rest of the song, but the rest of the album. I even e-mailed Gregory Alan Isakov to personally thank him for having created something so beautiful and honest.
Wow!
author: Lance DavidThis music makes my spine tingle! it so damn good! Greg Isakov's poetry and music touch me deeply and uniquely though each song. I just want to listen to it over and over. I swear the first time i heard it, i couldnt turn it off. Amazing, everyone should have a copy! When is the next album coming out?
Keep an eye on this lad
author: Drew NielandsTo put it simply...this guy has a gift. 'Rust Colored Stones' is one of those rare albulms that can be listened to from start to finish...growing better with every listen. Gregory is a true songwriting craftsman. 5 STARS!
I haven't taken this cd off the changer in months and months.
author: hannah plumbI sing these songs in the shower, turn it low when i am reading, crank it when i am cooking and hit 'repeat' when it is over. if damian rice's songwriting and nick drake's singing ever morphed into one wonderful singer/songwriter, gregory isakov would be that incarnation - except with his own unique spirit.
THIS GUY HAS THE GIFT!
author: ramesh kannanI got a chance to see Gregory play in Boulder, Co, and the Bay area. One of the most heartfelt, touching, and real songwriters out there. Once i heard this disk, i couldn't listen to anything else. I've played with many many singer songwriters, and gregory by far, has the gift that most musicians strive for their entire lives. If you have the chance to see this guy play, you are one of the lucky few. This is an album to own.
great music!
author: johann wagnerMan...this has to be one of my top ten favorite albums of all time. I got a hold of this guys cd at the Kerrville Folk festival and didn't pay much mind to it untill I got home and listened to it every day for the rest of the summer. He's an excellent songwriter. Everyone should own a copy of this album. This is some of the best music I've ever heard.
