GABRIELLE GOODMAN
Biography

Gabrielle Goodman is a phenomenal singer, songwriter and educator who has just released her latest CD entitled "Angel Eyes" which features smooth jazz saxophonists Walter Beasley, on the title track. Vocalist Armsted Chistian and saxophonist Andre Ward. Also bring their soulful sounds to this sensual CD. "Angel Eyes" takes you on musical journey that is sure to captivate your mind heart and spirit.

"Angel Eyes" is Gabrielle 's highly anticipated third release. She has two other CDs on the Verve Label respectively entitled, " Until We Love" and "Travelin" where she is featured with "Tonight Band" leader Kevin Eubanks, saxophonist Gary Thomas, Gary Bartz, celebrated bassist, Christian Mcbride and many other jazz greats.

Before embarking on solo recording career Gabrielle toured and recorded with such luminaries as Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack, Brian Ferry, Freddie Jackson and Patti Labelle to name a few.

She has also toured Europe with her own group garnering rave reviews at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival among others. The German press dubbed her the "Whitney Houston of jazz." She sings jazz, gospel, funk, and classical music with great ease.

As a songwriter she has won the ASCAP award for the song "You Can Make The Story Right" which was originally recorded by Chaka Khan and traveled into the top ten on the BillBoard charts. This sultry song appears on Gabrielle's latest release and is sure to capture listeners all over again. Ms. Goodman has written many of the songs that appear on "Angel Eyes". From the smooth sounds of "Brazilian Nights" to the sexy, R&B tinged "Come Home" every song will win your heart.

Gabrielle's powerful voice soars on the funky, hard driving remake of "Fly Eagle An Eagle" and evokes pure emotion on the pop/jazz song "Sometimes" which is already a favorite of many listeners.

When asked about Gabrielle Goodman, Roberta Flack stated: "she is one of the best singers". We know that you will agree!

Those looking for the third part of the Trilogy following Goodman’s two earlier recordings will be somewhat surprised by Angel Eyes. After leading off with the Latin sound of “Brazilian Nights” and a jazzy cover of the standard “Angel Eyes,” the album moves in to contemporary Urban Adult Contemporary territory, and does it very effectively. While bearing a gorgeous voice that mixes elements of Chaka Khan, Minnie Ripperton, Patti Austin and Stephanie Mills (all pretty good company), Goodman’s strongest suit may be her interpretive skills, making even oft-covered songs new and distinctive. This is particularly evident on the album’s most surprising cut, an upbeat jazzy dance cover of Steve Miller’s “Fly Like An Eagle” that blows the original away and immediately becomes the definitive version of that song. UAC and Smooth Jazz radio should pick up on this cut; it is dynamite.

  • Her best album yet!
    author: Barry Towler "The Lowdown"

I have follwed this lovely Lady since her guesting on Norman Connors' "Passion" album back in 1988. This album is definately her best offering to date and is aimed full square at the lover and connoiseur of strong soulful jazz. With appearances from Armsted Christian and saxophonist Walter Beasley this well-balanced CD fits Latin flavours with jazzy floaters and soulful, passionate love songs. My favourites include the gorgeous Angel Eyes, the scorching duet with Armsted Christian on Never Knew Love Could Be Like This Before and the Todd Rundgren flavoured soulful Sometimes. Definately one of the classiest CDs of 2003. A no-risk disc.

  • Vibrant and Inspired

Gabrielle shines once again on ANGEL EYES. A fine assortment of R&B, Jazz, and Contemporary Gospel, Gabrielle gives the stellar performance that her audiences have come to expect. Inspired, and moving, Gabrielle's ANGEL EYES deserves attention. Inclusion of Armsted Christian and Walter Beasley enhances the already vibrant performance. Gabrielle's rendition of the song she wrote for Chaka Khan, "You Can Make a Story Right" is rejuvenated for 2003 and makes the song new again. Excellent performance all around.
