notes

The band consists of two guys: Jaime and Ahren. Jaime is the singer/keyboardist and Ahren is the guitarist. They both share songwriting duties. In its earliest form, this musical entity came to be in 2003 as three friends came together to jam and record in Jaime's basement. It was a very informal affair: three guys with the same desire to record their songs. The third party was a good friend, Landon, (who currently plays in the SLC area as Landon Audio.) With the facilities at hand, they recorded Ahren's Naughty Song and Landon's Nothing to Give. This gathering sparked many more jamming sessions until thetime came for Ahren and Jaime to record an album. By then, Landon was merely a good friend, but not a part of the band. In August of 2005, before their departure to college Ahren and Jaime recorded their first basement album: Summer Project II, which is still quite popular in the Wyoming area. Originally, the band name was to be Brothers in Arms, but soon after discovering Brothers in Arms was a Dire Straits album, the duo retreated to their theatre roots and chose a more suitable name-- Something Shakespeare. Now, as their music takes on a new direction for their sophmore album, their name has become FOR THE BENEFIT. As students of theater, the duo strive to convey character in their songs and tell a few awesome stories.

Comments from the band:

Turn It All Around - This is what happens when a good friend needs our help to get it together.

Goliath and the Rise of a New King - How do you react when someone you care about is going though a hard time, and just needs to be selfish?

Isabel - Jaime fell in love with a waitress once.

Forget - We felt the need to write a song about sex and sad things. Mostly sex. Because sex hurts.

Existence Pending - A song to let us know we're not alone in this drone-like existence.

Colorblind - Our poetry reading.

Just Between You and Me - Conflicting thoughts on the tribulations of commitment.

Hooker - Some hookers just need a song to be written about them.

Someday - A chant most of us can relate to. Who doesn't want to love and be led toward a better existence?

Little Boy - Grow up. Fall in love the right way.

Pretty Eyes In Paris - A true love story that happened to a keyboardist in a certain band.

Jenny - A song for a sad girl.

Turn It All Acoustic - Because the sound of acoustic guitars make life worthwhile.

Glass Of Water - The lyrics speak louder.

Someday Remix - It simply had to be done.
