notes
Into the Freylakh continues to grow as a band with their second album. The band mixes modern re-workings of traditional pieces with originals that extend the Klezmer idiom. The effect is a very different take on the future of Klezmer than one hears in the music of the downtown New York City Klezmer scene. Rather than mix electric guitar and the frenetic energy of Rock music into Klezmer, Into the Freylakh enlivens the tradition by incorporating Jazz, Latin and European art music. The result is a smooth blend that flows from traditional Jewish folk songs to Free Jazz to Latin and back again, never failing to entertain.

Well-played, well recorded, worth your money
author: Klez FanDon't be scared off by the Ornette Coleman reference in the title. This is an excellent recording from a well-rehearsed mainstream group. Klezmer fans open to modern updates will appreciate this. The recording sounds "now," but remains very listenable.
