notes

Jenn Franklin is a natural born singer, songwriter, pianist and performer whose life experiences and unique voice come together to make uniquely powerful music. She writes honestly, unabashedly, and with plenty of emotional protest. With her refreshingly uncontrived style and powerful vulnerability, Jenn Franklin is catching the ears of industry executives. "When I first heard that voice, I told Jenn to stay away from vocal coaches at all costs!...It would be like trying to improve on Tiger Wood's golf swing," Bart Herbison, Executive Director, Nashville Songwriters Association International, NSAI.

Her debut release of the 6-song EP, Errors and Admissions, on Animus 7 Music is a collaboration between Franklin and Nashville producer, Peter Overton, the album offers dynamic performances of startlingly honest songs. The CD has received an impressive amount of support for a debut independent release, with spins on over 175 stations across the U.S.

Notable performances by Franklin include showcases at the 2006 and 2007 South by Southwest music conference in Austin, TX. She has also performed in 2NMC, Nashville's New Music Conference, Diversafest, Midwest Music Summit and ASCAP Writers' Series. Franklin's song, "What Took You So Long" appears on the nationally-distributed compilation CD: GoGirls Musicfest 2006.

Franklin began her professional performing career at twelve, fronting rock bands in the biker bars of Hays, Kansas. By age 18, Franklin had recorded two original EP's, which spun on local radio stations for over two years. During college, a pivotal moment occurred when she decided to pursue her first love: writing solo on piano. Following influences from artists as diverse as Aretha Franklin, Fiona Apple, Patty Griffin, Heart and Janis Joplin, Franklin's own music emerges as poignant and evocative. Her authentic voice easily delivers over a wide emotional terrain.

"“Errors & Admissions,” from Jenn Franklin, is this singer/songwriter/pianist’s debut album and she breaks onto the music scene with a vengeance. Despite the fact that the record has only six tracks, Franklin’s collaboration with Nashville producer Peter Overton combines her powerful voice and lyrical honesty, making an album that will speak to listeners’ souls immediately." --Celebrity Cafe

"There’s nothing more honest than a song, stripped down to a piano and a bit of drum for a beat, and a singer, starting off slowly and then soaring in a way only emotions could create. If you know what I’m talking about, you’ll want to listen to Jenn Franklin’s Errors & Admissions. There’s a beautiful sincerity in all six songs on her EP." --Cactus IV

"Errors & Admissions may be the title of this debut e.p for songstress Jenn Franklin, but on it you are not likely to find either. At six tracks,it is just enough to get you somewhat hooked & to keep wanting for more. It is suprisingly one of the best releases I have heard so far this year" --www.parx-e.com & Rip It Up Magazine

  • Fantastic EP
    author: Cecilia Pattison-Levi (BMA Magazine)

“Errors and Admissions” is a great set of songs for a debut EP. The first two tracks have a dynamic pop rock feel. The pristine piano, soft bass and percussion add much emphasis on the overall soothing atmosphere in the material’s last half and give the last songs a peaceful and reflective quality. The opening track ‘What Took You So Long’ is a real statement of intent from Franklin. It has a terrific riff and her powerful voice together with a punchy chorus demonstrate her song writing and melodic talent, while the edgy ‘Mercy’ changes the pace and the poignant ‘Innocence To Lose’ shows the diversity of her songwriting. “Errors and Admissions” is an EP worth tracking down and it’s a great start for a musician that is starting to attract attention around the world. Just great!
