notes
Baritone saxophonist Frank Basile moved to New York in the summer of 2001, after earning his Jazz Studies degree from the University of North Texas, as a selected member of the first Jazz Studies program at the Juilliard School. Basile is quickly becoming one of New York’s busiest and most in-demand baritone saxophonists. Since moving to New York, Basile has been heard with The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, The Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band, The Dave Holland Big Band, Michael Bublé, Pablo Mayor’s Folklore Urbano, The Jason Lindner Ensemble, The Mingus Big Band, The Mr. Vivo Big Band, The Bob Mintzer Big Band, The Dennis Mackrell Big Band, and The Chris Byars Octet. Basile leads his own quintet, which performs regularly throughout the city.
Frank's self-produced debut CD, Thursday The 12th, features three original compositions as well as four somewhat off-the-beaten-path standards. Along with Basile on baritone saxophone, the quintet features the extraordinary talents of Joe Magnarelli on trumpet, Adam Birnbaum on piano, Mike Blanco on bass, and Mark Ferber on drums.

MIND BLOWING !
author: NICK BEAUCLERKArrived in New York on a Sea Cruise and fulfilled a lifetime ambition to visit the Village Vanguard - caught both sets by the Vanguard Orchestra and Frank Basile's playing that night knocked me out . Had to buy this album and Man can this Guy play ! It has an excellent contrast of Full On numbers as well as the sensitive ballads - Frank really swings and I look forward to the next album

Great discovery for a Jazz fan!
author: San Diego Jazz FanGlad my good friend hyped this to me - I love bari & Basile sure has the stuff! Great tunes, great playing by all - this one will live in my player for a while. My only complaint - I'm left wanting to hear more!
Great tunes, excellent musicians
author: Ed Love, director Nebraska Jazz OrchestraI liked the mixture of seldom-heard jazz tunes and Frank's original compositions. Frank has a great sound on the bari sax, and swings like crazy. The rest of the band is excellent, too. I'm eager to hear more from this band. The liner notes were an unexpected pleasure to read - very witty commentary by John Mosca, trombonist from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.
