FOURWORD QUARTET

Ofer Peled – Saxophone
Shay Maoz - Piano
Daniel Ori – Bass Guitar
Roi Oliel - Drums

The FOURWORD quartet is a jazz group that began as a trio. Shay Maoz – Piano, Daniel Ori – Bass Guitar, and Roi Oliel – Drums met at the Rimon School of music. The three started playing together when Shay participated in the Jazz Player competition. One of the things that helped him win was the unique sound of the trio and the sense of great cooperation and togetherness that characterized it.

Following Shay’s success at the competition and his participation at the IASJ convention, he was granted a few recording sessions at the school studios. This is how the quartet came into begin – the group produced original materials, played together whenever they could, and even looked for a saxophone player that would naturally fit in and contribute with his presence and character. Ofer Peled – Saxophone joined the trio, and they started working together at rehearsals and on the stage.

At the summer of 2004 the FOURWORD quartet started work on their debut album, and during October 2004 they recorded their first four pieces.
Following these recording sessions the quartet started performing throughout the country, in a variety of jazz clubs, and became known as a leading jazz group.

Performances brought on a greater appetite – both for the group as a quartet with a special and unique sound, and for each and every group member as a professional in his own right.

During 2005 the FOURWORD quartet continued working on new, fresh materials and
After the group had put together most of their materials, the quartet decided to go back into recording and add some new pieces to their debut album, which was finally released near the end of 2005.

The album is an original composition, and includes combinations of various contemporary rhythms, powerful improvisations, and graceful melodies.

As the name of the first piece – ROAD JOURNEY – suggests, the album represents the group’s voyage into “a melting pot” of styles and influences. It merges between jazz, rock, funk, and R&B, and includes unconventional rhythms and imaginative and adventurous melodies.

The FOURWORD quartet brings us music full of fresh groove, imagination and feeling. Their work is of un-compromised high-quality but at the same time easy to listen to, and accessible to the general public.
