The Four on the Floor saxophone quartet hail from Los Angeles and its members all attended Cal State University Northridge, playing in various jazz bands and ensembles together. After playing many a Christmas gig over the years, they decided to whip up a Christmas CD for folks to enjoy at home. In the years since its release in 1998, the Four on the Floor personnel have gone on to other projects. Maia Sharp (soprano and alto saxes) is a successful singer/songwriter who has worked with Bonnie Raitt, The Dixie Chicks, Carole King and others. Scheila Gonzalez (alto sax) has been very active in the L.A. jazz scene and plays with Zappa Plays Zappa, Steve Vai, and other notable artists. Ian Dahlberg (tenor sax) plays in various groups around town, including San Fernando Valley orchestra (on oboe). Lots of musicals keep him busy as well. Darrin Smith (bari sax) also plays here and there in L.A., on musical dates, big bands and other gigs. Darrin continues to write and arrange for all things sax.
