"Jeffrey Foucault is the bard of small-town anywhere... his poetry rich with details ... his worn-in voice like an old down jacket... frayed... gritted... delivery so raw and real it fairly throbs." - NO DEPRESSION

"A superb debut... stripped down sound... smoky voice pitched against fragile acoustic guitars... a selection of rich songs that set scenes and tell stories with simple poetic economy... subtle... as enduring as the prairies themselves... stunning."
- THE BIRMINGHAM POST (UK)
"An atmospheric Midwestern poet-troubadour, a charming presence and a splendid guitarist."
- THE BOSTON HERALD
"As strong a collection of songs as any debut is likely to be... weathered sweetness... rich and convincing... earnest and thoughtful... hints at experience which belies his 26 years... Miles from the Lightning is bound to be one of those rare debut albums that an artist's longtime fans will continue to revisit for years to come."
- DIRTY LINEN
"This debut album is simply magnificent... a singer-songwriter with an amazing gift for songs that fall somewhere in the hinterland of early Dylan, John Prine and Greg Brown, with touches of blues, country and folk."
- SOUTH HAMS NEWSPAPERS (UK)
"An intriguing songsmith... has impressed hard-to-please fellows including David Olney and Bill Morrissey... exemplary."
- THE TENNESSEAN (Nashville)
"A stunning first offering... a 27 year old singer songwriter with a dust coated voice that sounds like it's been around forever and a set of prime influences in Dylan, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and, one might guess early Tom Waits... literate, poetic and intelligent stories... will certainly seep deep between the cracks in your soul and linger there for months... Foucault's pendulum is most definitely on the upswing."
- BIRMINGHAM 101 (UK)
"Jeffrey Foucault is too young and too good. It scares me, really."
- Chris Smither

Great guitar, even better voice!
author: C. Aaron McNeeceJeffrey Foucault plays great guitar, but he has an even better voice. The lyrics are poetic, haunting.
Great voice and quuite a lyricist
author: Alton GrayI enjoyed his Stripping Cane so much I immediately went looking for this, his first CD. His lyrics really grab me and his voice fits with them perfectly. A little more polished on his second CD but that's good. You won't go wrong with this one.
An amazing & authentic voice. The CD is almost as good as seeing him live.
author: Court ClineMiles for the Lightning is and incredible debut album by a truly gifted singer/songwriter. After hearing Jeff open for another performer at the Iron Horse in Northampton, I was immediately sold on him. He's part Chris Smither, part Townes Van Zandt & part Woody Guthrie. What else could you ask for? Order this amazing debut CD today, you won't be disappointed.
Genuine
author: Erin WhiteThe lyrics seemed to be so profoundly comforting, listening is an experience.
Absolutely haunting.
author: Don BrunsJeffrey Foucault's rugged voice and delicate guitar work turn these spare arrangements into haunting works of musical genius. This album draws you in and demands your full attention. This is a brilliant debut album. I can't wait to hear his next one.
Building of a legend
author: Nolan"Miles..." opened my heart to a new world of melancholy inspiration. It is beautiful, thought-provoking and powerful in its simplicity. It invokes images of smokey cabin nights and crisp bright days... I know it will always take me home to Wisconsin. Thanks Jeff.
Fave song Secretariat
author: Amanda FrenchBought the CD at a show in Charlottesville--think I'm addicted to the song Secretariat--beautiful melody, lyrics rich in inventive imagery with a nice kick in the head at the end.
Lovely. Particularly moved by the last little piece.
author: a woodworkerIt is a lovely CD. Quite moving. I was particularly struck by the last piece which I didn't happen to hear for at least two months.
Jeff is the Sh!t - period, end of sentence.
author: RyanThis CD has barely left my sight since I bought it three months ago. Powerful, beautiful lyrics, great guitar work, and, to paraphrase Peter Mulvey, a voice that you hear first with your body, and only then with your ears.
Outstanding
author: EwenOnce in awhile you come across an artist that demands attention. This guy is one. He deserves all the praise for producing one of the finest debuts I have heard in a long time.
A style all his own....
author: Terry KinnFoucault's 'Miles From the Lightning' ranks as one of the best discs to grace my CD player during the last 10 years. His compelling vocals, guitar playing, and introspective lyrics had me mesmerized from the first listen. He has a unique style all his own- he borrows from some great artists but remains true to his own personal vision and experience. I love singing along to the title cut and Walking at Dusk...and I'm Alright is one of those songs you'll want to turn up loud and sing along to while driving fast down a back country road. A must have CD!!
- author: JB Pike
I have known Jeff since I was about 8 and I was forced to travel around and do some handiwork with him as punishment for doing something wrong. He used to frighten me, but since then I have learned what kind of man he really is. If you ever get an chance to meet him you will know what I mean, he is rugged, cowboyish, straight out of "The Solace Of Open Spaces" His music is soothing to the soul and a great friend on long drives in colorado.
Image laden lyrics mixed with great open tuning guitar work
author: Carl KiersnowskiThe album is absolutely mesmerizing. His image laden lyrics are masterfully blended with great open tuning guitar work. Mix in vocals that express the deep rooted feeling this album conveys and you've got an unbeatable combination. I caught Jeffrey live last evening, opening for Richard Shindell and I must say his live performance is captured beautifully on this album. He may be an opening act now but as I told him last night, he won't be an opening act for long. This is the best album I've heard all year !!!
Wet Leather Melodies Spilling So Elegantly...
author: KevinI had the opportunity to see Jeffrey live for the first time last night. I had never heard of him before, but I definitely heard him last night! Jeffrey is 26 going on 50, and as I put in my subject line, his voice reminds me of wet leather...cool, smooth, buttery...and his melodies are like the saffron. BUY THIS CD!
gritty lumberjack songs with a sweet side
author: Jasperwrite off the bat jeffrey's songs hit you in the heart. they make you sing and they make you think. jeffrey uses folk roots and adds a twist all his own. very crafty and genuine. a must have album whether your a folky or not.
musically complex, well crafted, with thinking man's lyrics.
author: RuthanneThis CD should appeal to a broad audience of folk music fans, and especially to those who appreciate Jeffrey's woven, rolling, guitar style and complex lyrics with an uncomlicated presentation. Each time I listen to it, a new line hits me hard and rolls around in my thoughts for days. I can't wait to hear the next CD!
Jeff's CD is both beautiful and comforting
author: Andrea WichmannI have had this cd for over a year and have never fallen out of love with it. Jeffrey is an excellent musician and lyricist. The cd is beautiful. It gives you a sense of being back home when you're away, or the feeling of being at summer camp, or up north at the cottage. This cd never stops bringing a smile to my face, and when I listen to it all I can do is just close my eyes and enjoy. Well done Jeffrey. I recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys beautiful acoustic melodies and wise, flowing lyrics.
Words and melodies so clean and honest one can't help but be transposed into you
author: J. BurnsWords and melodies so clean and honest one can't help but be transposed into your own "safe-haven"- whether it be fireside or driving cross country on your favorite stretch of highway... Jeffrey's voice dwells with his words and music so poetically. One cannot imagine a better fit.

A shot of whiskey on a cold winter day...
author: Josh WoodwardOnce in awhile, you find a CD that leaves you with a lingering sensation after you listen to it. Jeffrey Foucault's debut CD, Miles From The Lightning, is one of those for me. Every time I listen to it, it leaves me with a feeling of comfort, and warmth. Picture yourself sitting by the fire alone on a snowy winter night, with a dog curled up at your feet as you down a shot of whiskey. Imagine that, and you have a good feel for the mood of this CD. Jeffrey has a weathered but soft voice that sings with experience far beyond his years. His masterful fingerstyle guitar work compliments everything nicely, without standing out too much. This was one of my favorite CDs of 2001, bar none. Get it. :-)
This CD is as sincere as a singer/songwriter can get!
author: Brian WhiteI enjoy this CD no matter what mood I'm in. The strumming patterns, chords and melodies are enough to mesmerize for hours.
Folk roots are still alive and kickin' in the heart of Foucault
author: Tim SpringerJoined by the great Peter Mulvey and Jeffrey’s own Martin guitar, he lends his stylings to those of Townes Van Zandt and David Rawlings. It is very apparent that something “roots-driven” is happening here and when you listen to the whole picture, you can see a star rising out Madison, Wisconsin. “Walking At Dusk (The Liberty Bell)” leads you on the journey through an aching soul in a boorish state reminding us “It looks to be…getting a crack”. Wishing himself into lighthouses and a way out of this place he was in, one can feel Jeffrey almost crying as he plays. “Secretariat” is the loneliness in him manifesting itself in the shape of a woman. He describes a seductress with “a heel like Achilles”: someone who is just as hard as he is but also understands his weakness. It is impossible to step away from this experience unaltered. It feels like he is ripping at every piece of America’s dirty past and applying it to the hurting of himself. Don’t believe me? Just see… “Miles From Lightening” isn’t something allowing itself to just be ignored.
Pure power and poetry
author: K DavisSince I bought this CD about a month ago, it has not left my CD player. It is magical, poetic and powerful. I look forward to many songs from this gifted artist.
