Most of the songs on "Home Fires" have been written over the course of the last year. This CD is a very personal project for me stemming from the loss of my mother after her three year battle with cancer. It has become a catalyst for healing, not only the loss of my mother, but for all the the losses I've experience in my life. I share this CD with you as a personal catharsis for me but also in hope that it can mean something to you and help you with your own personal journey with life and loss. If not, then it's got a good beat and easy to dance to.

  • Great storytelling and passionate vocals

    Several upbeat, catchy tunes I can't get out of my head including "Let it Go" and the earliest work on the CD, "331/3". "You Are My Angel" and "Beg For Mercy" are extremely personal, yet universal songs in which you can feel the love and pain simultaneously. "Last Mile Home" and "Backtracks of America" are classic storytelling at its best and Ms. Forste's forte'. I like the mix of songs on this CD best, since it concludes with some of the most optimistic songs she's written, "Big Blue Beautiful World" and "Only A Gold Band". Overall a very solid CD that combines the best about the previous two - great folksy songwriting and serious musical hooks.

    This is without a doubt Kathy Forste's best album to date. I'm not typically the kind of person who likes this kind of music. A very close friend had me listen to this album, and I must confess I got hooked. Kathy Forste has shown in her lyrics and music that she has the strength to be candid and not afraid to show her feelings about certain things. Kathy's music is not only beautiful and spiritual, it's also very inspirational. This especially shows in "You are my angel", "Prayer to Saint Cecilia", and in my personal favorite "Big blue beautiful world". This is the kind of music that makes me feel good, happy, perhaps even spiritually fulfilled, and I cannot think of a sane person who wouldn't like this album.

    Home Fires is a very personal CD for Ms. Forste, and the feelings come through in each and every track. Songs tackle such emotional issues as loss of a parent and the events of September 11 in a manner that will help the listener come to terms with various life events. On a happier note, Only a Gold Band is a loving tribute to a happy marriage, and Let It Go expresses a healthy approach to those difficult people in our lives. This is an outstanding CD with something for all musical tastes to enjoy.
