notes

The fourth recording by the Findells is honest, passionate, and moving - full of infectious, dance-inspiring rhythms laced with intelligent lyrics evoking the various emotional landscapes of life.

These songs are deceptively simple. They rock with the ease of the Ramones (“Die on the Dance Floor”), dig beneath the skin like Nick Cave (“Helen of Troy”), and sometimes tip a hat to early Bowie (“Another Femme Fatale”), while avoiding the pitfalls of pretension. “Take Your Dress off, Irene” could easily become a rocking anthem to the sexually disenfranchised.

Lost in Pardise covers a wide musical range- from the soaring live version of Eleni Mandell’s “Pauline” (the only cover) to the brave but tender love ballad “Love like a River” – yet never seems compromising or derivative.

Good rock ‘n’ roll from a new place. It should be the record that finally brings widespread attention to this deserving band.

Take a listen. Spread the word.

  • Wow!

I don't usually write these things, but wanted to say that I went to a Findells show (in a small local venue) with my 22-year old daughter. She dragged me there, quite frankly. I was amazed. The moment the beat started, everyone hit the dance floor- from the young to the middle-aged hipsters. No one cared. It was wonderful. (My daughter still laughs at the site of her rocking mom.) I got this CD and was further amazed. My favorite is "in Tennessee" because that's where I'm from (incredible ballad). My daughter likes "Naked with You." We finally found a CD we can listen to together. And it rocks. Thank you Findells.

  • Very Impressive

I came upon this record by happenstance- I'm a Patti Smith fan and was intrigued by the CD Baby recommendation- and I must say that (even though it doesn't sound a lot like Patti) I'm impressed with the poetic quality and the passion of the delivery. I cannot get "Helen of Troy" out of my mind. Powerful. "Eleven-eleven" is mysterious, sexy, and wonderful. I live that song- I've been on the hood of that car- and ending it with a Moliere quote is perfect. "Love like a river" reminds me of Dylan but goes places he would never go in a song. Trust me, this will not be played on commercial radio. All I can say is give it a try. It's a winner. Throw your virginity out the door.

I think the best offering the Fins have produced to date. Starts off a little bland and directionless but picks up about mid way thru and really gets your heart pumping and your brain thinking. A song about Helen of Troy? Why not, would you die for a woman? Lou Reed is creeping around a lot of these songs. Pauline is a gas. PRIVATE I is fun. Naked with you on 2 levels is mostly about honesty. Good to end with "love like a river" after so much loneliness and lost love good to see Allan jump in and enjoy the river.

known the band for 15+ yrs. and better keeps getting better. i've known them as a live band...{it's worth the trip from home for that fun, sweaty,nite)...but this is the thing, as accomplished as they are as musicians they have also mastered the studio as well. this excellent achievement reveals 20+ yrs. of passion, drive, and well, guts. i'm proud to call them all my friends.cut # 8 "the world tonight" not mentioned on this page should be noted...a live cut at the establishment where my wife & i met 8 yrs. ago suggests inspiration might have been lingering in the smoke that sweet nite.anyway smokin or non-smokin buy this disc...unlike so many OTHER things, it will not let you down...eclectic,,,like a starry nite.

From start to finish, this is a new face for the Findells - and a new face for rock in general. No two tracks sound alike and each keeps you begging for more. The music is enthralling, provocative, and beautiful; the lyrics won't let you down. Each song, be it a great dance beat or an emotional ballad, is thought-provoking and beautifully composed. This is by far the best of the Fins. There's something for everyone on this album, and at least one track (if not several more) that anyone can relate deeply to. The vocals of both lead singers create a balanced, rich sound which really does play to every audience. The flavor of each song is so varied, you won't get tired of the album. In my opinion, "Take Your Dress Off, Irene", "Helen of Troy", and "Love Like A River", stand out as three of the best songs I've heard in a long time. It's also wildly impressive that one band can craft three beautiful love songs, one pop rock, the other classic rock, and the other a ballad, all on one CD. If you're looking for provocative, intelligent music you can dance your pants off to... Lost in Paradise is it.
