notes

The Fins have been playing to packed houses in Virginia for years, and lately the word's getting around and the dance floors need expanding. The energy is infectious, the lyrics intelligent and thoughtful, and the music is passionately seductive. These guys (and one girl) know rock 'n' roll and they offer it honestly, defying rock star pretensions and absolute categorization. It moves. And it moves you.

"Finland" is their third major recording, following "Naked & Blue," dubbed by Musician magazine as a "unique and outstanding performance." Along with nine original songs, the Fins throw in a revved up rendition of the 60's classic country tune, "Flowers on the Wall," originally recorded by the Statler Bros., who incidentally share the same hometown. Don't expect to listen to it sitting down.

Lend "Finland" an ear- both ears. Then listen to it again. We think you'll have to have it. Crank it up. Dance with your clothes off.

Then check out their newest release, LOST IN PARADISE.

  • One of 2005's best!

I've had the first album by The Findells, 1983's "The Radiators Are Bleeding," for twenty years or so but didn't know they were still around until this album came out. Though I've always loved that first one, "Finland" is even better! Picture David Thomas of Pere Ubu crossed with Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits on vocals and excellent, stinging lead guitar fronting an intelligent, adult rock'n'roll band with some hard-edged new wave leanings and you've got The Findells. BTW, if you like this album (their third), seek out the aforementioned first album and their second, "Naked & Blue" (which I found after extensive searching since I love "Finland" so much!).

A girlfriend told me this was one of her favorite CDs. I was skeptical. Two weeks later it was in my player at home, in my car, and iPod. I was hooked. Great music, incredible energy, smart lyrics, and no hype- very infectious. (Now I'm going to invite her over to vacuum my bedroom.)

  • More Passion than you can stand!

I just saw these guys (and one girl:) perform live tonight and they were wonderful! The energy was palpable and it made me want more! Get this CD and any other that you can get your hands on, and then go see the show, you won't be disappointed. Promise!

  • I like it, my friends like it, you'll like it, just buy it.

This is a fun cd. It's perfect to listen to while gardening, taking a bath, driving in the car, having coffee, fixing dinner, checking email, taking a walk, and many other things. But you should never, ever listen to it during jury duty, that would be inappropriate.
