notes
Although the band is still riding the wave of their 2004 New Mexico Music Industry Award victories in the categories of hip-hop and rap, the band is actually the cornerstone of Albuquerque's thriving funk and R&B live local music scene.
Driven by the vocal stylings and innovative songwriting of Cali Soberanes and Todd Lovato, the young funk band has amassed a large cult following throughout the Southwest.
For the most raw dog, unredfined, rare-grooved, new generation funk, hip-hop, Latin fusion, you need not look further.

These Guys are Bad
author: SkinnyfatI'm not a big fan of the whole Latin/hip-hop/funk fusion thing - frankly, I think it's a little played out. Ozomatli has had many babies since they broke out on the scene in the late 1990s and will inevitably have more after winning a Grammy this year. Many bands mix genres in an attempt to make everyone happy and this can be terribly annoying and gimmicky. This is why Felonious Groove Foundation's Sixth Dynasty is such a refreshing album. The album is not trying to satisfy anyone - it is trying to satisfy their genres. The tracks are true to the spirit of Latin, funk and hip-hop but it becomes obvious that the music is fueled by a deeper artistic vision that dodges the gimmicks and lays the funk down hard. Sixth dynasty pays tribute to the ancestors of funk, Latin and hip-hop and they do it seamlessly. Sixth Dynasty is a must for any groove-based music collection and is the best album out since "Great. Great, Great Gran'Pa."
