notes

Freedom Funk Ensemble was formed as an improvising musicians coopreative performing every thursday night for three months in Eugene, Oregon. Rough charts were written and the twelve piece ensemble took its form. A rhythm section, horn section, percusion, and D.J. Over time, the heart of the ensemble emerged and the most passionate and dedicated were revealed: Brooks Barnett Trumpet and Flugal Horn, Joe Manis Saxophones and Clarinets, Dustin Lanker Rhodes, Keyboards, and Piano, Michael Waissman Acoustic and Electric Bass, and Jordon Glenn Drums and Percusion. The bands music dubbed "Lounge-Core-Avant-Funk," mixes modern styles; funk, dub, hip-hop, metal, latin, and electronica, with the sensiblities and knowledge of Jazz. FFE's performances are inspired by a deep love for heavy grooves and good music. Music that moves you . Literally. Since 1997 FFE has been touring and and performing with a great deal of success through out the Western U.S. For Booking INFO contact the Siren Music Company. (503)238-4771

  • The funk album that delivers where all else fail
    author: Matt Nolan

At last, I've found a funk band who fulfil the promise that so many other funk bands offer but then fail to deliver. Every track on this disc is an absolute cracker. Solid grooves that make you move and have great depth of musicality too. Just a shame I don't live in the USA and can't see these guys play live...
