Varita Mágica (Magic Wand in Spanish,) Ferna's debut album, is an exploration and fusion of rock, pop, ballads, and Latin rhythms. The themes range from love, dreams, daily life in society, to the search for meaning. The lyrics of all the songs are personal and intimate. In this varied collection you will find hope, candor, and magic in an out-of-the-mainstream voice and an original musical presence.
Ferna, a Peruvian singer-songwriter, lives in the Washington metropolitan area. He began to write love songs in the 70s, but later expanded to other themes. He has continued writing many songs, which had remained unpublished until recently. A few years ago, his family and friends encouraged him to record his songs so others might enjoy their rhythms and message. In this way, Varita Mágica is the first delivery of what this singer-songwriter has to offer us.
Ferna describes his music like this: "Imagine Silvio Rodríguez jamming with Credence Clearwater Revival and Los Angeles Negros on a raft in the middle of the ocean on a sunny day in Cape Verde."
He explains to us that music had always been part of his life, but it later became the core of his search for meaning and self-expression. And he adds, "Five years ago, I was hesitating between devoting my time to art or music, and miraculously the book Sacred Legacies by Denise Linn came into my hands." In the book there is a reflection: "Make decisions based on joy rather than what's practical or logical. Follow your heart. Follow your dreams." Taking this advice to heart, Ferna got involved in an intense endeavor to produce Varita Mágica for all to hear and enjoy.

Varita Mágica, el primer disco compacto de Ferna, es una exploración y fusión del pop, rock, balada y ritmos latinos. Los temas que presenta van desde el amor, la vida diaria en nuestra sociedad, hasta la búsqueda de significado en la vida. En esta variada colección, el melómano encontrará un mensaje de esperanza, candor, y magia, en un estilo original y teñido de un tono personal e íntimo.
Ferna, cantautor peruano que reside en el área metropolitana de Washington, empezó a escribir canciones de amor en los 70 y posteriormente expandió su temática al descubrir la Nueva Canción y la Nueva Trova. Desde entonces él ha continuado escribiendo canciones, las cuales habían permanecido inéditas hasta la fecha. Pero hace unos pocos años, su familia y amigos cercanos le alentaron para que grabara y difundiera sus canciones, de tal manera que otros pudieran disfrutar de sus melodias, ritmos y mensaje. Así pues, el álbum Varita Mágica es una primera muestra de lo que el cantautor tiene para ofrecernos.
Cuando indagamos sobre el tipo de música que practica, nos responde diciendo: "Imagínate a Silvio Rodríguez cantando con Credence Clearwater Revival y los Angeles Negros en una cebichería playera un sábado por la tarde en Cabo Verde."
Fernando Osorio Zumarán -Ferna- nos explica también que la música siempre había sido parte de su vida, pero que últimamente se ha convertido en una actividad esencial en su búsqueda de significado y en una forma central de expresión personal. Luego añade que hace 5 años estaba en la disyuntiva de embarcarse en un proyecto de largo aliento que podría haber sido en el ámbito de las artes plásticas o la música, fue entonces que llegó a sus manos un libro de Denise Linn, Sacred Legacies, en donde encontró el siguiente texto: "Toma decisiones basándote en el placer en vez de la practicidad o la lógica. Hazle caso a tu corazón. Persigue tu sueño". De pronto supo que el proyecto en cuestión debía estar en la esfera de la música y siguió el llamado de su corazón. Así se involucró intensamente en la tarea de producir este disco, su primera colección de canciones que ahora tenemos en nuestras manos para escuchar y disfrutar.
