“The Way It Was” is the first release for Ferlin Husky on Heart of Texas Records. The album is the first project that Husky has released in over ten years. His legendary career has surpassed sixty years and has generated over fifty million sales.

“I was introduced to Heart of Texas Records by Leona Williams,” Husky explains. “I was so impressed with Leona’s albums on the label that I agreed to record a new project for them. I had about decided to retire from recording, but after hearing this album I am sure glad that I changed my mind.”

Husky begins that album with a song about true love that was written by Williams. “The Way It Was” tells of a love that has remained constant throughout the years. Husky also rerecorded some of his biggest singles in “I Feel Better All Over” “Walkin’ and A Hummin’” “I’ll Baby Sit With You” and “My Reason For Living.”

“I was at Hank Thompson’s house and we started talking about his song “Take A Look At This Broken Heart of Mine” Husky said. “I told Hank that I always loved the lyrics and wanted to include that song on this album. Hank and I have been friends since the Capital Records days.”

Leona Williams joins Husky for two stellar duets on “A Dear John Letter” and “As Long As I Live.” Their vocals and harmonies blend together making a lasting impact.

Husky’s long time side kick Simon Crum is even featured on “The Way It Was” with the Tommy Collins classic “You Better Not Do That.”

Justin Trevino produced this album and called on some of the finest musicians in Texas including Bobby Flores on fiddle, Jake Hooker on bass, Dicky Overbey and Johnny Cox on steel guitar, Ron Huckabee on piano and Jim Loessberg on drums. Harmony vocals were completed by Leona Williams, Amber Digby, DeeJee Overbey, Guyanne McCall, Jake Hooker and Dicky Overbey. Johnny Bush contributed the liner notes.

“His vocals are still so strong even at 80,” Heart of Texas Records President Tracy Pitcox said. “It is a shame that Ferlin is not a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. After millions in sales, eighteen movies, star on Hollywood Walk of Fame and all of his accomplishments, the Hall of Fame award has still not come to him. As Ferlin told me the other day ‘It wouldn’t impress Jesus.’ It might not, but this industry owes it to Ferlin and to his multitude of fans.”

    have been a long time fan of mr. husky's; and it is so good to see him do this cd. best part is hearing it...... what a great cd. i have nearly all of ferlin's vinyl and have tried to keep up to date with any cds available. keep singing those great country songs, ferlin; you had really been missed. best regards, cokescountry

  • A Welcome Comeback

    Ferlin Husky has one of the most individualistic vocal styles in any musical genre. The vocal power has dimmed a little at age 80 but the technique, delivery and phrasing are still intact and Ferlin can still deliver the goods. The band is terrific and surrounds him with a more solidly country accompaniment than I can recall on any of his recordings since the early 1950s. On this CD Ferlin tackles a nice mixture of real country songs including one song from the Foster-Rice songbook and songs penned by Hank Thompson, Roy Acuff, Tommy Collins and Ferlin himself. Ferlin revisits four of his biggest hits here with Leona Williams taking the Jean Shepard role on his duet hit "Dear John" (a/k/a "A Dear John Letter"), and three of his solo efforts "Wings of A Dove", "I Feel Better Alll Over" and "Walkin' And A'Hummin'". Justin Trevino and Leona Williams produced this CD, with Justino also playing rhythm guitar and Leona adding a second duet on the Roy Acuff-penned "As Long As I Live"
