Fell Boyzs perform original material, fusing jazz, funk, soul, and progressive rock.
The Wisconsin-based band the Fell Boyzs have their roots in 1990, when teenage brothers Kyle and Zach Fell put together Antenna Head, a blues and rock band performing Pearl Jam, Neil Young, and Stevie Ray Vaughan covers. Their dad Tom, a powerhouse drummer, was giving informal guidance, while sitting in now and then. They formalized the arrangement when Dad joined the group and they changed its name to August. When Tom’s brother Billy brought his guitar into the fold, they became the Fell Boyzs, and were on their way to becoming one of Wisconsin’s most acclaimed bands.
With Kyle on bass and lead vocals, Zach on saxophone and drums, Tom on drums, guitar, and harmony vocals, and Billy on guitar, the Fell Boyzs have a natural connection that no amount of rehearsing could bring. The unspoken communication between the family members leads to a nearly indefinable meshing of sound when they’re on stage or in the recording studio.
Their fans and reviewers have said their original pieces contain “smooth, driving rhythms”, “excellent instrumentation”, and “cool harmonizing vocals”, and their work is likened to Chick Corea, Santana, Yellow Jackets, and Dire Straits. Their musical influences reflect the contemporary styles of Steely Dan, Dave Matthews, and Tower of Power.
In 2005, Fell Boyzs was selected out of 10,000 other artists to have their song, Samba de Beef, used in an independent film, Plastic. (www.plasticthemovie.com).
Nominated for 4 WAMIs (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Awards:
* 2005 Song of the Year, Samba de Beef
* 2005 Best New Contemporary Jazz Group
* 2005 Best New Group
* 2006 Best Contemporary Jazz Group of the Year (*WINNER*)
* 2007 Best Contemporary Jazz Group of the Year
*Have supported national artists Chris Botti, Down to the Bone, Daryl Stuermer and Otmar Liebert*
What you get when you cross great jazz influenced music with seasoned talent. And their fans and reviewers liken them to Steely Dan, Dave Matthews Band, Santana, Yellow Jackets, and Dire Straits.
Listen to their music and you can't help but agree! Hit play and imagine you're in the crowd of: 6 - 600 - 6,000 or 60,000. It won't matter because you'll have the best time of your life!
… Plus multiple performances (Bastille Days, Summerfest, Easter Seals Telethon 2005, Kettle Moraine 2004 Jazz Festival, Smooth Saturday Night Jazz 2004 and 2005).
Reviewed in On Milwaukee, Impact Press, and Foley Entertainment: “A pepped-up jazz collective…best served when looking for jazz that won’t put you to sleep.” “These guys are professional, not newcomers.” “Great chops, composing and production … the real deal!”
Fell Boyzs’ newest CD will be released Spring 2006, and they will be performing in several jazz events: opening the 2006 season’s Jazz in the Park (http://jazz.easttown.com/default.htm), Thoughts for Food, Joliet, IL Easter Seals Telethon.

Once you start listening, you won't want to stop!!!!!
author: Rosalie Fell PieturaBesides the fact that the Fell Boyzs are my relatives~(2 Cousins,2 Uncles)~this is an Awesome CD!!!! Once you hear it, you want to play it over and over!!! Extremely talented! The style of the Fell Boyzs is Jazz Funked to the Max!!! You won't be disappointed!
"complete" indeed
author: Eric Landthis album rocks all the way thru. i have a tendacy to get bored 2/3 of the way thru a CD, but this one has great variety & kept me interested the whole way thru. i'm very happy with this purchase.
This is the complete package!
author: DKThis is a truly great CD, well rounded...smooth, funky, jumpin...something for everyone. My only disappointment is they are not in my neck of the woods to hear them live. Well, maybe someday...they have the talent to go global!
Partial to the beat I am
author: Steady RollerKettle Moraine was a great time and these guys were a great big surprise. So I bought their CD and I am glad I did. Partial to the beat I am and their drummer is well suited for this music. He is a master at laying it down in a funky groove for the music to ride up on. The sound of the the drums on this recording is very exciting. The sound of the drums live is impeccable. Every drum sang out with its own distinctive voice. (Must have a great drum technician) They just happen to have all of the components working well. Buy the CD and go and see them perform. You'll be back!
Make sure you have your dancing shoes on. You'll be on you feet!
author: S.WatcherKettle Moraine was great place to catch these Fellows perform. The venue and huge crowd seemed to ignite their performance to a high level and I was very lucky to be there to hear and see it. I am very particular about the sound of recordings and the live performance of it and they have it all going.
I keep returning and returning and returning Like the ever ready bunny
author: Maggie MayI don't know who they sound like but what does that matter. They sound great. If you ever get a chance to hear them live you will want to do it again! Like when you listen to this recording. You will want to hear it over and over and over again! This is a well polished group of musicians both on the Cd and live. I was at three of their shows this summer and every time I saw them they were better than the time before! It is the same when I listen to this recording.

what can I say: bought it , played it and saw them perform it live. WOW!!! When Fell Boyzs play live you can't help but dance. the cd is great but they bring along the 3 xtra musicians that play on the cd to fill out the sound. One key board player that is a super talent Eddy Muniz, one lead player Mike Derose and thier uncle Billy Fell who gets the crowd moving right from the first note with his funked up guitar playing and crazy rythymic dance moves with Kyle an Zach. All in all they are a must see and must buy.I hope to see them on a major label soon. " THEY DESERVE IT"
As good as live
author: Gerome PalockiA pleasant feeling and sounding approach to a unique blend of musical styles. This type of direction is hard to pull off but they seem to have mastered it. Not a boring moment on the entire recording. I also caught the Boyzs at the jazz festival at Kettle Moraine. None stop music, energy and movement. With consistantly raising the capacity crowd to their feet. The CD's energy level is right up there with their live performance and very tastefully done.
In the darkness of the tunnel there is light shinning through!
author: Weekend WarriorThis CD is not infected with the tunnel vision that runs recklessly in the music industry. Thank you for presenting music as the most important aspect of the art form. Oh and by the way great show at the Kettle Moraine Jazz Fest. Nothing like soulful, high energy jazz to get the masses moving and we were all moving! Just like I do when I play your music. This Cd is one I will never get tired of. It says what I like to hear and so often do not.
Just what the doctor ordered for your tired and stressed ears
author: the doctorNice break from the norm. A new cure for the soul. A unique and comforting therapy for your mind. Good for what fails you. Like radio? Not your everyday snake oil this really works, This one really gets you stimulated. It is just what you need to help you get through.
I am smiling
author: Carl BosciaBought this CD at their Summerfest(Milwaukee) show. After hearing how great of a band they are. They do not short change you on the Cd either. Every tune is well written and performed. This Cd is worth its weight in gold as far as I am concerned. A very likable style that has great foundations which they have built wonderful music upon. They have such a unique way of enticing you into their music. Almost like a kind of good black magic. What a pleasure to listen to.
A gleaming pearl in a pile of pebbles!
author: Jermaine DefouIt most certainly does it for me. To try and sum it up would be difficult but to say the least. It grooves right on down with the best. I agree with the analogy that it is for the new milenium. I enjoy the road you guys travel. Many sites to see along the way. A pleasant and interesting ride indeed!!!!!
Well, Will you listen to this
author: Jhimey CocoaMan have you ever felt this good in such a long time listening to a piece of music? This one sure is a blast! They cover such familar earth from such nice places you feel like you are being hosted by some close friends with your feet up on their coffe table listening to your favorite stories. I've had a grin from ear to ear while listening to them play. I can't help myself. I gotta move when this music is on. This CD shows you there is still some uniquely creative presentations of distinctive music being produced. Can you say tasty? See I knew you could! Dire Straits comes to mind along with Steely Dan, early Santana, 60's R & B, 70's Funk, Miles and even some Led Zeplin. I did not see the the DMB influence though, this is more creative instrumentally! Hats off to you guys! It is a pleasure listening to your music.
I like it very much. Great Feel. It's for the new milenium!
author: KumsieKeep up the great work guys. I can see nothing but good things for you. Nice to hear. Great for the soul.
Way Cool! Way Cool!
author: konsoleLike a two cycle engine burning a gas and oil mix. This one is a high rever! This one cooks with just the right mix of styles to paint a beautiful sonic picture. A creatively unique style that fires on all cylinders. Wether it is with the grace of Blue Country or the high revolutions of Funk in E. You can tell these musicians work hard at the mechanics. The sound, performance and the presentation more than welcomes the audience in on it all. You actually find yourself happily caught up in the movingly sonic experience. But you must do it with headphones Way Cool !!! Way Cool !!! Turn it on and turn it up a notch!!!!!
What the hell Fells
author: AlexisThis is a pleasant surprise indeed! I am from this area (Wisconsin) and I know of these guys. But this is excitingly different. Which is a pleasant surprise. I picked this Cd up at one of their shows this summer. The CD is a wonderful breath of fresh air in this cluttered up music world of all the same. I am so impressed with the performances of all of the musicians on this recording and it has one of the best grooves in the business. There is a surprise around every corner on this CD. They leave you with a hidden track after Funk in E that leaves you wondering what else is there in there. The Cd is imaginative, creative and has that unique quality that only true professionals are capable of producing. Get the Cd and have fun with it I am and I believe that is exactly what they have in mind. The title alone tells you right off the bat that this is fun.
WoW, Holy Cow Batman/Catwoman tastefully Funking Great!!!!!!!
author: Th Demo ManAfrican Beatnik is destined to be a classic and it doesn't stop there. No sir! This Cd is full of Classics. No feelers on this plate all grade A stuff. Jazzy Feel Instanly makes you want to get up and get down with your dance. Samba de Beef is so beautiful in the 1st half of the tune that it is hard to believe that the 2nd part actually gets better. Then they roll right into a sing-a-long (you can do your favorite three/six step to) called Felicity. This Cd is all about the song, the dance and the feel. Crossover is all over this recording! Blue Country and Not a Problem could fit into most any place in the musical spectrum. I Don't Know Starts out this record with a very powerfull statement and it doesn't let up till the end of the record. The thing that is really good about this CD is that it is all good. Good musicianship, Good songs, Good performance, Good recording, Good art work. Do your favorite Recording Industry Executive a favor and turn him on to this group. He will be thanking you for years to come. Turn The Page!!!!

So you think you found your funk? Think again! This is brand new funk done a brand new way. Three cheers for the Fell Family. New and refreshing. Something to sink your teeth into. Sit upon the shoulder and Funk n E are my favorites but they got a whole lot more going on here, just as good.
What a great new Sound!!!
author: MadgrocerWow, finally something innovative and original. From the opening cut to Funk in E, these guys brought a whole new flavor to the listeners ears. This CD could create a whole new genre of music. Thumbs UP!!
- author: Birdiel
Great stuff these guys funk it up and then bring you around back down-town. Urban funk spanked with a little country soul by way of LZ. A No task groove for head bobing and or dancing. For shure! I also checked out their web site its a great little site. Not cluttered up! Nice and clean! Just like the quality of the recording. For sure one of the best independent released CD's I have picked up in a long, long time. ****
If you are stuck in one genre type of albums then this CD is not for you But if you like your music seasoned with diversity that cooks with the best of them and then turns around and brings a tear to your eye with the deep emotion of songs like Blue Country and Man-A-Can you need this music. These guys have hit upon something truely unique and it is such a pleasure to hear somebody who steps away from the crowd. The cookie cutter mold has been broken. And I believe a new type of music has been forged. Don't be surprised if you start hearing other groups start to copy the style, which is truely all their own.
