notes

Federico Miranda was born in San José, Costa Rica and discovered his passion for the electric guitar at the age of 12. In 1993 he formed the band Gandhi and after a short time they recorded their first album “En el Jardín del Corazón”, which put Gandhi on top of the radio charts and touring nationwide, launching a career that has lasted over a decade.

His instrumental solo work “Baula Project” shows his more personal and introspective side. In his Naturist Impressionist Music, “Baula Project” carries a message to help preserve the Leatherback Turtle and protect the oceans. The ocean and beaches of Guanacaste also got Federico to meet guitarist and producer Stevie Salas, who worked with Gandhi on their latest album “Arigato No!”

His melodic and minimalist style shows the influence of Gilmour, Beck and Satriani and he combines rock with elements of jazz and traditional Latin American. As a composer and producer he has also worked for TV documentaries, commercials and multimedia. He has received 4 ACAM awards as member of Gandhi and 2 ACAM awards for “Baula Project”, including “Record of the year in progressive or electronic music” in 2007.

Federico has performed in the International Guitar Festival, the Iberoamerican Guitar Festival in Washington DC, and has been on tour in Japan, country with which he claims to have developed a special bond. In 2006 he joined Linda Cushma and Oxygene8 for their European tour and also collaborated on their album “Freak of Chance”, with Tony Levin among others.

He studied with Costa Rican pianist Manuel Obregón, with jazz guitarist Steve Khan in New York and in Berklee College of Music in Boston. He graduated from the University of Costa Rica in Electrical Engineering and has combined music with recording technology, audio and musical production.

He is an active member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (LARAS) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES). He is endorsed by M-AUDIO and DiMarzio.

***

"Federico Miranda'a Baula project is something worth listening to. This young guitarist has the makings of being a world class player. He plays with conviction and sensitivity. More importantly the compositions are well formed. It's hard to make instrumental electric music sound anything other than fusion. Federico Miranda achieves this. His music is real and comes from the soul"

  • Excelente disco, merece unas ocho estrellas, más bien ¡je!
    author: Diego Arias

Genial disco, gran propuesta.

  • A more than worthy debut
    author: Daniel Miguel

Hailing from Costa Rica, Federico Miranda brings us a rather exciting mix of scorching yet compelling riffing and delicate, refreshingly creative arrangements. Point in case, “Noreste” with its heavy, distorted power chords and all the serene flute playing. Arguably one of the best tracks of the lot. One thing’s for sure, this CD is guaranteed to not only satisfy die-hard guitar connoisseurs (who’ll find plenty to sink their teeth into here as Federico’s a very capable and nimble player) but also (and most importantly) those who enjoy strong, memorable melodies and hooks (and who at the end of the day won’t be trying to determine whether that fast flurry of notes was swept or alternate picked and if they’ll be able to master it at two times its speed). Kudos to Federico Miranda, may he continue to dazzle us with his excellent song writing.

  • Un continuo viaje que nos transporta en mente y alma
    author: Tomas Casanova (Revista Mellotron)

Recomendable absolutamente.

  • distinctive electic guitar melodies sing stories through music
    author: amelia

This CD is perfect for listening to while enjoying a peaceful moment. The guitar melodies really reach out and say something to the listener. Each song fits nicely with the one before and after it, and this makes it very easy and enjoyable to listen to the entire way through. Lovely.
