Faye Patton - this artist is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose original songs combine jazz, funk, folk, blues and classical influences. Gutsy,fluid vocals that flex and stretch across registers accompanied, often live, by funky, bluesey piano arrangements. Major influences are Ray Charles, Scott Joplin, Junior Mance, Tori Amos,Rachelle Ferrell,Ricki Lee Jones,Herbie Hancock,Kate Bush,Diamanda Galas and Theolonius Monk.

Gothic Blues... Fayes original songs of love, loss, passion and inspiration take on a new level of luminosity in this collection which is entirely live, acoustic voice/grand piano. An atmospheric selection of tunes which combine neatly crafted piano arrangments and rich,poetic lyrics. Think... Scott Joplin meets the Brothers Grimm in an enhanted garden of jazz/folk fusion and unrequited desire.
Faye has been gigging regularly in and around the underbelly of the London music scene, with and without her band, talented session musicians from gospel group Revelation. Venues include: The Vortex Jazz Club (in its old and new incarnations) The Kashmir Klub(host to many international music stars, including Sheryl Crow),The Cobden Club, Tyme Piano Bar, Chongs Restaurant, Ocean, The Spitz,The Union Chapel,WANC Cafe, Club Wotever, The Bedford, The Pelican (Raison D'etre) The Living Room,Pizza on the Park, Nambucca, Ruby Blue, Marie Lloyd Bar, Deal Real Records (Female Allstars)The Biddle Brothers Bar and Stratford Theatre Royal East. She has also performed in the small but prestigious Jazznacht festival in Donaueshingen, Southern Germany.

Drives a mean rhythm
author: Sue McCreeth, UK Jazz SingerFaye Patton's 2004 debut 'Tell Me I'm A Sinner' showcases an angular, strong, individual, and interesting set of self-penned songs. She sings and accompanies herself on the piano, and it is clear from the outset that this is a musician and vocalist to be reckoned with. Her melodies twist and turn with an impeccable sense of timing and tuning. She has a soulful voice and the ability to place every single last word with whichever tone she chooses from her varied palette, and she is emphatic in her choices. She drives a mean rhythm, almost hypnotically so, on most of the tracks. This is that magical kind of solo piano that moves and grooves in the bass, whilst bitter harmonies and counter melodies are cut in the other skillful and steady hand... Her lyrics are light years away from generic love-la-la. Each song in this set of nine tells an intriguing and gutsy story. She captures conflicts, disappointments, raw passions, and empathies. "Gallows Flowers" intimates the epic and historical edge in her writing and "Woman on the Tracks" throws back to a silent movie staple which was well overdue for reframing. Here the idea becomes a heartfelt declaration of support for said woman. What's Faye gonna do to help? Well she's gonna get right out there and lay down by her side of course! And she has a voice of such frankness, honesty and warmth that she could make you believe if you were tied down on those tracks she's be there by your side. You can put Faye Patton on as background music if you wish because her grooves are so strong, but if you do listen you may find that she gets right under your rib cage and pulls at the muscles holding up your heart and lungs. And that is very, very good fun!'
